Preceptors are a class of Wizard encountered deep within the Sunken Pyramid, working with the Dread in an effort to repel the Guardians. They are encountered in the second encounter, where they are a necessary component in the fight against the Zoetic Lockset.

Gameplay

Before the second encounter, a Preceptor and a squad of Acolytes will arrive in the hallway to repel the intruders. It is here where they introduce the fireteam to the mechanics of the next encounter. To set the wheels in the room to the symbols by the exit door, players need to change the direction of the wheels to the most convenient direction and pick up the Knowledge dropped by the Preceptors to shift the glowing point on the wheel to the right symbol.

During the Zoetic Lockset battle, these Wizards, usually seen among a cadre of Acolytes, will show up to aid the Pyramid-enhanced Shriekers in an attempt to eliminate the Guardian intruders. While the wheels will rotate naturally thanks to the Lockset, Guardians may also need to collect the Knowledge dropped by the Preceptors to move the wheels to a more opportune symbol on the wheel to avoid fierce opposition summoned by the wheel and make the damage phase less perilous.
