| With the ancient war of Light and Darkness finally concluded, the forces of the Coalition return to the Last City to celebrate their monumental victory. At the tower, Zavala, Ikora, and Crow sit together on a ledge overlooking the city. Crow would state to both Zavala and Ikora that although the Traveler is healing, they still have a lot of work to do. While the Eliksni children played with infant War Beasts, the Guardian and Ghost would arrive to the tower. Looking down below, Zavala would speak of how they have finally prevailed over the Witness after the many years of conflict. Ikora would state that she imagined the feeling of their victory would feel different. Stretching out his paper lantern, Crow would realize that they likely didn't feel satisfied because they had not yet celebrated. As the Guardian walks over and sits beside their friends, the four of them release along their paper lanterns into the sky along with the civilians of the Last City to celebrate their victory. | | With the ancient war of Light and Darkness finally concluded, the forces of the Coalition return to the Last City to celebrate their monumental victory. | Despite their victory, the death of the Witness would not come without consequences. Most of the Witness's forces would retreat from the Pale Heart, although its most loyal followers would still continue their attempts at enacting their master's final orders. With her newfound mortality, Xivu Arath would continue to hide in the shadows as she prepared for the next conflict to come, while House Salvation would begin to turn on itself with Eramis's absence. Furthermore, Savathûn and the Lucent Brood would begin their attempts to claim the Pale Heart for themselves, while the Scorn and Taken would be left directionless with the lack of a commanding will. To learn more of the Scorn's activity, Crow would begin to search for Fikrul's whereabouts. | | Despite their victory, the death of the Witness would not come without consequences. | Meanwhile, an Aurora of Light and Darkness known as the Valence would begin to pour over Earth. To ensure no casualties occur, the Coalition would designate a no-fly zone within 100 kilometres. Furthermore, with the Witness's destruction at the hands of the Guardians, its Darkness dissipates into a mist and merges with the Traveler's Light, resulting in the creation of the Echoes; artifacts of Light and Darkness containing memories of civilizations extinguished by the Witness and its followers.
| | Due to the Darkness entering into the Pale Heart, the Traveler would begin to transform while an Aurora of Light and Darkness known as the Valence would begin to pour over Earth. To ensure no casualties occur, the Coalition would designate a no-fly zone within 100 kilometres. Furthermore, Echoes, paracausal objects of Light and Dark created from the Witness's memories would exit the portal on the Traveler and the Valence. The Echo of Command, comprised of memories of a forgotten race extinguished by the Witness and which possessed the ability to control would arrive into the depths of Nessus. It would be retrieved by the Conductor, Maya Sundaresh, who would utilize the artifact to transform the Nessian Vex into a new subtype under her command. |

| ===Scattering of the Echoes===

| The Echo of Command, created from the memories of the Qugu Warden Te'Qal, the last commander of the Seht Armada who met their demise in a final stand against the Hive and the Black Fleet would arrive onto Nessus. Possessing the ability to command and compel other beings, the Echo would be retrieved by the consciousnesses of Maya Sundaresh, who had survived her death on Neomuna within the Darkness of the Veil and had infiltrated the Vex Network. Compelling the local radiolaria, Maya constructs herself a new Exo body resembling Lakshmi-2 and shapes the Echo into a mantle around her neck. Taking the mantle of "the Conductor", Maya uses the power of the Echo to take command of the local Nessian Vex and forms her own Vex collective known as the Nessian Schism, introducing individuality among their ranks. She then embarks on a quest to find her wife Chioma Esi and bestow upon humanity a new Golden Age by spreading radiolaria throughout the Sol System. | |

| With the Echo altering the behaviour of the Nessian Vex, the Guardian is sent to investigate the impact site while Saint-14, Osiris, and Failsafe assist them in their task. After investigating this site and uploading Failsafe into the H.E.L.M. mainframe, the Guardian continues their investigation on Nessus while battling against the Nessian Schism, as well as the Shadow Legion and their House of Dusk mercenaries. Eventually, the Guardian, Saint-14, and Osiris arrive to the Planetary Core to confront the Conductor, where they learn of her identity as Maya Sundaresh and her ambitions for creating a Golden Age through radiolaria before retreating. Returning to the Planetary Core, the Guardian discovers that that Maya has been capturing Vex simulated copies of Chioma Esi for interrogation before ruthlessly terminating them. After Maya's deranged obsession led to her killing the original Chioma, the Guardian, Ikora, and Saint-14 would confront her once more and force her to retreat into the Vex Network with the Echo of Command still in her possession.

| In the meantime, an Echo containing the memories of a Pre-Whirlwind Eliksni would fall into the hands of Fikrul, the Fanatic. With the Echo in his grasp, Fikrul would proclaim himself the Kell of Kells and use the power of the Echo to convert living Eliksni into Scorn, thus giving rise to the Revenant Scorn. The Fanatic would amass further forces under his banner in the form of the Shadow Legion and the Dread thanks to the immense power he now wields. As Fikrul would assault Riis-Reborn with the purpose of converting further Eliksni into Scorn to serve his cause, Eramis and House Salvation would send out a distress signal to the Last City.

| Upon receiving this signal, Crow sends the Guardian to capture Eramis alive for her crimes against the Last City. Pursuing Eramis to the place where she was defeated years ago, the Kell of Darkness would agree to let herself to be willingly captured and imprisoned in the Last City in exchange for providing refugee for her House. Returning to the City, the Guardian would begin missions to rescue Eliksni civilians from Fikrul's forces while Eido would continue her attempts at finding a cure for the Curse of Nezarec that afflicted Mithrax. Later, the Guardian would return to the Prison of Elders and fight the various enemy forces within in pursuit of Fikrul. Recognizing that Fikrul seeks something contained within the Prison of Elders, the Guardian would push further into the derelict prison where they witness Fikrul resurrect Skolas, Kell of Kells as a Revenant Scorn. Although, Fikrul and Skolas would escape, Variks would come to the realization that the Echo was singing a Whirlwind dirge and that it is discontent with Fikrul's distorted ambitions and desires a new wielder who is worthy of its power. With this revelation, the Guardian would free Eramis from containment at the behest of Eido to assist them in retrieving the Echo from Fikrul's grasp.
