| Monte Carlo is an Exotic Auto Rifle introduced exclusively in Destiny for PlayStation players. The rifle looks different from many other auto rifles in that the front of the weapon has a bayonet. It was once a purely cosmetic attachment that could not be used until the introduction of its catalyst in Season of the Witch, which allowed players to utilize it for powerful melee attacks. A Year Two version of Monte Carlo was reintroduced in The Taken King. It was reintroduced in Destiny 2 during Season of the Undying in the Shadowkeep annual pass. | | Monte Carlo is an exotic auto rifle, a handcrafted showpiece with a sleek look that masks the cruel reality of its function — the efficient elegant delivery of war against any who would tarnish its legacy. A sword is built into the rifle. A Year Two version of Monte Carlo is available in The Taken King. |

| The Year One version of Monte Carlo was only available in the PS3 & PS4 versions of Destiny until September 2015, after which is was made available across both platforms (Xbox and PlayStation). Upgrades increase the weapon's hip fire effectiveness and reduces the cooldown for the player's melee ability, providing a firm grounding for close range domination. | | The Year One version of Monte Carlo was only available in the Playstation 3/4 versions of Destiny until September 2015, after which is was available across all platforms. | "The math isn't the thing. The math is an inside joke. Just old solutions some say hint at the pinnacle of pre–Golden Age thought mechanics. My partner used to go on about it. About probabilities and random patterns used to solve the unsolvable. I never really paid attention. Outdated science never equaled a good payday, if you follow. Anyway, we used to run resource grabs along a coast out east. We found the rifle in the ruins of a gamblin' hall. In a vault ten feet thick. Behind glass, like it was someone's somethin' special—a real showpiece. Thought for sure we had a solid score. Funny bit was, the spot where we found it…? It was named after the math. Or, that's what my partner said. My money says the opposite, but what I know about science and history is limited to what I can sell and the sum it'll fetch.
| |
| | |
| "So, we're out in that ruined hall with loot to spare and an old-time shooter that should trade for a small fortune. Then scavengers hit. Small crew, but mean. My partner took bolts. Dropped. I tried to cover him, but the pirates were on us. Last I saw, his Ghost got scraped by a line rifle. Nothing I could do. Only reason me and my girl made it out was she was off scoutin' our escape, and I… The Fallen were distracted by my partner. But, I'm tellin' ya… there was nothing I could do."
| |
| | |
| "You were lucky to make it back… With your life, and your 'treasure.'"
| |
| | |
| "You could say that."
| |
| | |
| "You survived an unauthorized run in known Fallen territory. You found an advanced Golden Age firearm with functional tech in a sealed chamber. You sold the weapon's tech to a gunsmith you won't name for a 'small fortune' in Glimmer. And your partner is nowhere to be found—'dead by Fallen hands'—so that 'fortune' is all yours. No need to split it."
| |
| | |
| "Sure. When you look at it that way, the math ain't so bad."
| |
| | |
| —Egon Bash, a questionable Hunter under Vanguard interrogation

| *The gun's name and descriptive text are a reference to the Monte Carlo method, which is a mathematical modeling method used to simulate complex phenomena and probabilities, such as the behavior of liquids and gases, the development of galaxies, and a number of other practical and theoretical applications. | | *The gun's name and descriptive text are a reference to the Monte Carlo method, a mathematical modeling method used to simulate complex phenomena and probabilities, such as the behavior of liquids and gases, the development of galaxies, and a number of other practical and theoretical applications. |
| *Given that it comes with the unique perk Markov Chain, it could also be a reference to the Markov Chain, which is a class of algorithms for sampling from a probability distribution. By constructing a Markov chain that has the desired distribution as its equilibrium distribution, one can obtain a sample of the desired distribution by recording states from the chain. The more steps that are included, the more closely the distribution of the sample matches the actual desired distribution.
| |
| *The signature perk of this weapon, the Monte Carlo Method, gives this weapon a chance to refill the user's melee attack after doing damage, and the gun also has one of the highest base reload speeds and stability amounts of any auto rifle without using any perk slots.
