| During the late Golden Age, Kuang Xuan oversaw the K1 project, a joint Clovis Bray-Aeronautics of China research effort focused on determining the source of "extra-spatial" and electromagnetic signals emanating from beneath the surface of the Moon. She and the other K1 researchers discovered that the signals were coming from a buried extraterrestrial artifact, which she later referred to simply as "the article".

| During the K1's team initial efforts to study the artifact, Xuan and the other researchers experienced a variety of adverse psychological effects, including hallucinations; Xuan reported seeing a "dark visitor," which she later recognized as a manifestation of her own doubts.

| Kuang Xuan was a Buddhist, having been trained by a "third-stage anagami monk of the Tibetan Neo-Vibhajjavada-Theravada school" at [[SUECABAO]]. During her time as K1 research lead, she found herself having increasing difficulty meditating as she became more exposed to the artifact and its effects.
