Cranis is a Sindû pilot working for the Dune Raiders. A skilled pilot inspired by Jarus, Ace Defiant, Cranis became a supporter of Caiatl's rule. Following the Fall of Torobatl, he was deployed in an escadrille to battle a force of Xivu Arath's Horde on a Frontier world of the Empire, where he would be the only survivor. After that, he would begin traveling the galaxy in his fighter, constantly taking jobs from anyone willing to pay for parts to maintain his ship. After running into the Clipse mercenary Vurn, the two would be found and hired by Lau'urc to become members of her legion.
