Boneflayers are a unique Hive mechanical construct developed and utilized by the Banished Swarm. These vehicles were created by the renegade Hive as a means to not only maintain their small numbers, but also have a powerful, swift assault weapon to quickly raid, ruin and escape loyal Hive domains. They were encountered by the Guardians across the Sol System as the raiders began plundering the old worlds.

Gameplay

Atop the Boneflayer is a pair of technological cannons it uses as its main heavy ordnance which, after charging for a few seconds, fires eight / Jade Lightning shells in quick succession, dealing incredible damage to Guardians, even outright killing them with a minimum of four rounds on normal difficulties. Up the hull is a series of leaking openings capable of firing a vast volley of Entropic Darts, which temporarily stay in the air for a second before all immediately chasing down their targets. At the top of these openings is another angled, vent-like structure that fires off arcing, explosive volleys of Entropic Flares to press enemies out from cover, creating caustic and suppressive areas-of-denial. At the nose of the vehicle is an opening which can fire off a torrent of Darkness much like a flamethrower, dealing significant damage to any opponent engulfed by the cone of Dark "flame".

Although the weapons may take time fire and actually become a threat, as well as the Boneflayer's considerable weakness compared to other Major vehicles like Fallen Walker or Goliath Tanks, the Boneflayer's strength lies in its incredible maneuverability. It is capable of unmatched speed perhaps only rivaled by a Sparrow, easily turning on a dime almost instantly and can quickly flank a target within seconds. In this agility, it can also use its wicked "wings" to cleave a target apart, angling it towards them and charging them at remarkable speeds. If an opponent gets too close, the Boneflayer can easily use its blade-like wings and jolt forward into them or discharge a blast of / Jade Lightning around it to knock them away should they survive the incredible power of the occult energy.
