The Assault on the Scarlet Keep was the final battle between the remains of humanity and their allies, and Eris Morn's Dark army in the Dark Future timeline.
PreludeEdit
Following the Bombardment, Eris Morn would establish the Scarlet Keep as her new base.[1] Mara Sov and her Awoken army would attempt several assaults on Eris, but all failed, resulting in some of the Awoken defecting to Eris's side. Eris would also trap the Vex in time.[2]
Calus would also abandon the Leviathan, with no one sure of his location after, and Mara would take control of it where she would slowly gather forces from the remaining Awoken loyal to her, the Eliksni and the Cabal to strike back at Eris and Savathûn.[2]
Sometime later, Elisabeth Bray would be found by her sister, Ana, who told her she wanted her to teach how to wield Stasis so she could take down Savathûn. Though unwilling to do so, Elsie would agree to help Ana rebuild Rasputin, if only to keep her safe.[3] The two would head to the Deep Stone Crypt on Europa to build Rasputin an Exo body,[4] before going to the ruins of the Last City to look for Ikora Rey. Instead, they found Zavala, who told them Ikora had been killed in the Bombardment.[5] Despite initially being unwilling to help them, he agreed to upon learning they had revived Rasputin, revealing that their true enemy was the one Savathûn served: Eris Morn, and that they would need more than the Warmind to defeat her.[6] So, the group headed to the wreck of the Almighty, where Zavala had made his home following the Bombardment. There, they used Rasputin to pull blueprints of the device Dominus Ghaul planned to use to capture the Traveler and harvest its Light. With it, they could track the Traveler using a failsafe installed into Rasputin, capture it and force it to help them defeat Eris. However, they would need an army to build it and so turned to Mara Sov.[7] They would be able to get the help of Mara and her army to build the cage and capture the Traveler.[2]
HistoryEdit
During the battle, Rasputin would remain on the Leviathan to pilot it while forces led by Mara would attack the Keep on the ground. Ana and Elsie would be among the allied forces facing Eris Morn and an army of Hive and Dark Guardians. When ships piloted by Awoken defectors emerged, Rasputin would shoot them down with the Leviathan's satellite arrays. Using the power of the Traveler, Zavala would strike the Scarlet Keep, completely leveling it and killing Savathûn.[1]
As Mara rallied her forces to strike now that Eris was weakened, the Witch thanked Ana for gathering all of her detractors into one place. Ana then froze her sister in place with Stasis before fatally stabbing Mara.[1] As Elsie manages to break free and classes with her corrupted sister, Eris would conjure a portal to unleash a horde of Vex, eviscerating Mara's Cabal and Eliksni army and swarming the Leviathan. Eventually, Eris turned her attention to the Traveler and called on her forces to kill it with Dark energy. Elsie managed to kill Ana, much to her sadness, before attempting to stop Eris as Darkness escalated the Traveler, but couldn't reach her before an explosion of Light enveloped all.[8]
AftermathEdit
Elsie opened her eyes to find herself in the Tower as a parade is being held for Cayde-6 for killing Taniks, the Scarred in revenge for killing Andal Brask. From there, Elsie would find herself stuck in a timeloop and would work to prevent her Dark Future from happening.[8] Across the loops, she tried to warn the Vanguard, but was written off as a doomsayer and exiled from the Tower.[9] She tried speaking with Ikora privelty about her experiences only for the two to be killed in just a week.[10] On some loops, she even considered killing Ana before she could be corrupted and once joined her on the side of Darkness, only for her to regret her choices and turn on her sister, restarting the loop.[11] Each time returning to that parade for Cayde-6.[8]
Upon understanding that the Black Heart was the catalyst for her original future's events, Elsie sought to have it destroyed.[11] Eventually, through the assistance of a Guardian she found interesting, Elsie was able to have the Black Heart destroyed and made the first step to change the future.[12][13]
