Furnace Smiths are a type of Major Phalanx found only in the Spinter Legion, added in The Splinter Legion. They are equipped with a kitbashed Cabal Shield, larger than normal, which can fit another Legionary behind it. When killed, they drop a shield maintenance core required to remove the shield blocking the way to the Splinter's Furnace.
