Destiny 2: New Light

Objective(s):

Head for Venus and assist the Vanguard in counter-Vex operations.

Destinypedia doesn't currently have a walkthrough for this level; could you write one?

The Vanguard have set their sights onto Venus once more. Assist a contact, restore the Patrol network and eliminate a rising Vex threat

New Frontiers is a Quest players acquire after beating Cry from the Grave and released alongside The Witch Queen, as well as the return of Venus as a new patrol zone for Destiny 2. Aiding Shaw Han in the liberation of the Cosmodrome from both surging Hive and Fallen threats, he reassigns the New Lights to a new Vanguard operation involving the exploration and restoration of the patrol zones of Venus in the hopes of countering the rise of a new threat for the young Guardians, the Vex. Working alongside the Warlock, Alana Reyn, they begin to establish a patrol zone and strike back at the machine menace. In addition to a new patrol zone, this Quest also introduces New Light guardians to Normal and Legendary missions, as well as a reprised The Nexus strike.

Quest Steps[edit]

Reassignment[edit]

  • Meet with Shaw Han and see what news he has to say

"Hmm. It appears Shaw Han wants to brief us on something new the Vanguard has been preparing, says we might be good enough to cut our teeth on it. Well, despite all the work we've been doing here, I suppose we should find some other operation to partake in to aid the Traveler. Let's see what he has to say." - The Ghost

Transcript[edit]

{Vendor Cutscene}

  • Shaw Han - Hey there... well, new blood isn't exactly a fitting title for you any more, is it? Hence why I called you here in the first place. You've done a lot of incredible work for the Vanguard here. Killing Navôta, crushing Deksis, and smashing S.A.B.E.R.. But I think we've done enough work around here, if you follow. Thanks to you, New Lights can freely explore this place without having to deal with an incredible threat, and thus, don't need people like us to protect them anymore. Which is why I've reassigned you to Venus! Congratulations! Time to spread those wings of yours, eh? But enough formality, time to give you the run-down. The Vanguard have picked up increased activity around the Ishtar Sink, and need the aid of a couple of Guardians to reestablish patrol zones, get a read of the land while there and, hopefully, stop whatever is happening around the coast. Head there as soon as you can, Guardian. Once you land, find one of our contacts who has been monitoring the situation there. Her name... [sighs] Her name is Alana Reyn. ...Yeah, I know her. She's a Warlock, once a part of my fireteam before she struck off on her own. She's obsessed with the secrets of that world, been trying to dredge up information on the Ishtar Archive, on the civilization there, on the Vex. I suppose there's no one else I could trust with maintaining operations there, but, well, fair bit of advice, she's eccentric. Loves talking a mile a minute. But I think you and her will get along well, all things considering. Well, I suppose this is where we bid farewell, Guardian. Good luck, with everything. Especially Alana.

To Where it Began[edit]

  • Head for Venus and seek out your new acquaintance, Alana Reyn

"Venus. So much has happened on that planet, during the Golden Age, during the Collapse, even in recent events. Place hasn't really seen much love from the Vanguard since the end of the Red War, so it might be brimming with hostiles, Guardian. Be prepared for anything." - The Ghost

Transcript[edit]

The Guardian travels to Venus

  • Ghost - Venus. Once a thriving center of science and knowledge during the Golden Age. But ever since the Collapse, it's slowly been corrupted by the influence of these hostile machines. The Vex. Operations in the past have done a lot to dismantle their structures and plans, and I'd dare say the things that happened here catalyzed the events that are transpiring today. But I digress; seems our deeds here aren't over. Not yet.

The ship exits warp space and heads for Venus. An in-game cutscene plays, showing the Guardian's ship approaching Venus and cruising over the Ishtar Sink.

  • Ghost - Seems like Shaw and the Vanguard weren't kidding. I'm detecting a lot of activity around the entire Ishtar Sink. Seems like we got our work cut out for us. But we can deal with that later, apparently we're to meet up with Alana, wherever she is. Let's touch down here, away from possible ambush.

Mission begins

  • Ghost - Looks like there's an encampment here... abandoned, obviously, but maybe we can gather some information on the land while we can. Get me to that terminal there.

The Guardian heads for a terminal in the Headlands encampment and scans an active device there

  • Ghost - Huh, most of the files here are protected by some serious encryption, but there is an audio file here that's free to play. Let's take a listen.
  • ??? - DON'T TOUCH MY STUFF!
  • Ghost - WHOA!
  • ??? - If you're a thief, I will hunt you down to the edges of the system, especially if you are one of those four-armed bastards who keep messing with my damn probes! If you are looking for me, well then, sorry for my outburst, just a string of recent bad luck. Unfortunately, I'm out scrounging for some data from the Collective. Feel free to get comfortable and wait. If not, head for the Ishtar Academy, you'll find me there.
  • Ghost - Alright then... No data on it's location, but there is a former Guardian outpost nearby that should give us the lay of the land. Let's go, Guardian.

The Guardian enters the Shattered Coast and heads for the outpost overlooking the cliff edge. Upon reaching it, a Skiff approaches, offloading Fallen reinforcements

  • Ghost - Wait, is that... Fallen, incoming! Brace yourself!

The Guardian eliminates the Fallen ambushers

  • Ghost - House of Dusk? What are they doing here?

The Guardian is led to the terminal and may place down a rally flag nearby to replenish their ammo and abilities. As the Guardian scans it, more Fallen arrive and a Darkness Zone falls. Guardians are introduced to the mechanics of missions, and even Legendary difficulty modifiers.

  • Ghost - We have more incoming! Defend me for a second.

The Guardian dispatches the horde of Fallen, keeping their numbers of themselves and their Ghost, finally reaching 100% on downloads

  • Ghost - I got as much as we can, but the terminal was extremely corrupted. Most of the data is incomplete. Let's go find another, watch for more Fallen.

The Guardian heads for the other terminal on the other side of the abandoned city and encounters some light Fallen resistance before interfacing with the terminal once more

  • Ghost - Here they come! Eyes up, Guardian!

The Ghost continues to scan as hordes of Fallen are eliminated, especially their Marauder, Shank and Wretch backup. A Servitor is killed.

  • Ghost - Guardian, look! That Servitor dropped something.

Upon collecting the Code Segment, the download percent increases drastically

  • Ghost - The Fallen must have ripped everything from these computers. Of course they would do that. See if you can find more of those codes while you keep them off me.

The Guardian eliminates more waves of reinforcements and collects more Code Segments from the attacking hordes of Servitors. The Ghost finally gathers all the data he needs and the darkness zone falls. A chest(s) spawn next to the terminal.

  • Ghost - Whew. There we go! I got everything we need. Seems the archives are... that way!

The Guardian heads towards the archive, only to find a rally flag next to the opening. Upon approaching the door, a Web Mine goes off as it is sealed by a Fallen barrier. A Darkness Zone falls and a Skiff approaches, hailing the Guardian with fire from its turrets while offloading Kiriks-4, High Servitor

  • Ghost - Seems the Fallen really don't want us going into that Archive! Too bad. Take down that Servitor, and we should be free to enter.

The Guardian pursues the High Servitor around the Coast, chipping away at its health before it retreats behind an immune shield. Scorch Captains, House of Dusk spawn

  • Ghost - [Grunts] It's protected itself in a powerful shield, Guardian. None of our firepower is going to cut it. But I think the Fallen's own ordnance will. Let's take those cannons, Guardian.

The Guardian secures a Scorch Cannon from a slain Scorch Captain and breaks the Servitor's shield with a blast or more of the Scorch Cannon

  • Ghost - Shield's down! Let 'em have it!

The Guardian damages Kiriks-4 more and repeats another shield breaking process. After some battle with the Ultra Servitor, the machine falls, allowing the Guardian to progress into the Archive

  • Ghost - Servitor down, and the Fallen are in retreat! Let's go find our missing Guardian.

The Guardian goes through the once sealed off door

  • Ghost - Hey, you think that Guardian is our contact, Alana? I mean, Shaw warned us she was eccentric, but, surely someone can't be that strange, right?

The Guardian enters the Ishtar Archive itself, picking up movement on their radar and seeing the opening crackling with energy

  • Ghost - I don't like this Guardian, I'm detecting movement... everywhere. It's like something is just... watching us.

The Guardian enters the Archive, encountering a Conflux before them, as well as a place to rally

  • Ghost - What is that? Guardian, let me see it.

The Ghost is led to the Conflux and begins scanning it

  • Ghost - Curious. This thing is comprised of non-baryonic energy all being channeled to... where exactly? Hmm, seems like there was-

Vex spawn orbs appear in the room

  • Ghost - Huh? Wait, Guardian incoming! We have- the Vex.

A wave of Goblins appear and begin engaging the fireteam. If a Goblin's head is blown off by fire:

  • Ghost - It's not dead?! How is it- the chest! Aim for the chest!

The wave, as well as a few others are eliminated, this time, including Hobgoblins and Minotaurs, ever increasing in volume and difficulty. A final one begins to appear

  • Ghost - That's a massive energy spike. Seems they're throwing some of their best at us!

A final horde of Goblins, Hobgoblins, Minotaurs and Annyx, Enforcive Mind attacks the Guardian. After a hectic engagement, all Vex are destroyed.

  • Ghost - That was intense. So, this is the Vex, huh? Get me a closer look, I need to really see what we're dealing with here.

{Cutscene}
The Ghost and Guardian inspect one of the destroyed Goblins, the former scanning its broken body. The Ghost finishes his scanning

  • Ghost - Like the reports said. Half machine, half organic, all tough and unyielding.

The Guardian inspects the Goblin further, spotting an Arc-laced wound on it

  • The Guardian - There's Light on this Goblin.
  • Ghost - Wait, you think these units were here before?

Ruffling is heard in the distance as a Ghost reveals itself from behind a bookshelf

  • Ghost - Huh, well that answers that...

The Guardian and Ghost approach their new partner and imbue light into them. A Guardian appears before them, looking away from them.

  • ??? - Okay. Well, that sucked. Alright, note to self: never inspect the quanto-phasic data tubes... again... for a day.
  • Ghost - Uh, hello?

The Warlock, shocked, spins around and aims at an equally startled Guardian

  • ??? - Oh, hey. You must've been the one who got me back up. But what about-

The Warlock looks around, noticing the destroyed Vex around her

  • ??? - Ah, I see. You clearly did a better job than I did. But what kind of fool would interface with a conflux and not expect some kind of Vex response?
  • Ghost - Well, we were a bit curious.

A Hobgoblin starts to get back up behind the Guardian

  • Ghost - We were looking for a Guardian. Some contact to help us with a new operation on Venus.

The Hobgoblin prepares to fire

  • Ghost - Say would you happen to be-

The Warlock moves the Guardian out of the way and fires her Hand Cannon directly into the chest of the Hobgoblin, destroying it instantly. She looks to the Guardian and starts holstering her weapon.

  • ??? - Ah, so you're the one Shaw told me about. I see you still got some teeth to cut. Alright, here's a little crash course for you: 1, aim for the chest of the Vex, that's where the unit is controlled itself. 2, always expect some sort of Vex response for anything, and I mean anything. 3, watch yourself out there, watch the cliffs, your corners, the ruins, everywhere, despite what you may think...

She looks to some of the destroyed Vex

  • ??? - The Vex are more crafty than you think. 4, know your limits and do not venture too deep into Vex territory before asking yourself 'is this really worth it'. And finally... just don't touch anything I've laid out. Don't want any data being altered by even the slightest of changes.

The Guardian and Ghost look at each other, somewhat puzzlingly

  • ??? - Follow all that, and I think we'll get along swimmingly! I believe you found my outpost, hence the rather rapid response here, so I assume you know where to find me after all this.

As the Warlock starts for the hole leading out of the Archive, she stops in her tracks and looks back to the Guardian, arm extended out

  • ??? - Oh, sorry, forgive my poor manners.
  • Alana Reyn - Alana Reyn, pleasure to meet you.

The Guardian shakes Alana's hand and the Warlock leaves, leaving the Guardian and Ghost alone in the Archive

  • Ghost - Huh, you know, I was expecting... more weird.
  • The Guardian - Guess we have to trust her experience, right?
  • Ghost - I guess.

The Guardian and Ghost start to leave the Archive.

Fixing the Network[edit]

  • Rendezvous with Alana Reyn and be briefed on the situation in the Ishtar Sink

"Looks like the Vex are a lot tougher than I thought. I see how they've become such a problem here. Well, thanks to our new friend, we've learned a couple of things... I guess. Well, it appears I'm missing some details on the situation here, and Alana is willing to give us the lay of the land. Let's hear her out, shall we?" - Ghost

Transcript[edit]

{Vendor Cutscene}

  • Alana Reyn - Again, sorry about earlier, not exactly a people person. Never have. Just not in my blood. Anyways, as you've no doubt encountered back there, the Vex are a bit more active now, even after we've torn them a proverbial new one over and over again in the past. Even the Cabal got a piece of the action way back when during the Red War. Granted, we should have expected the Vex to just, simply, come back up and continue their work, no matter the sheer losses they take. But here, it seems they've really kicked their operations into overdrive. Once, the Vex were divided into different subsects meant for specific goals but now... Now we have a consolidated force of them jumpstarting machinoformation across the world, intruding into the former Ishtar Collective and even waging outright war against some of the other inhabitants. I would love to crush them here and now, but, unfortunately, we can't do that without properly establishing a good enough foothold around the Sink. So, you will head out and make sure our patrol beacons are in working order and, if not, make the bastards that broke them pay before setting them back up. Maybe not in that order, but one could hope. Well, let's get cracking, Guardian!
