Annihilated by the Witness |
The Noesis was a species that encountered and was annihilated by the Witness at some point in the past.
History
The Noesis appeared to primarily exist as disembodied consciousnesses within a "noosphere" made of "N webbing"; a record of the Noesis references "anchors" which "slumbered" as the Noesis' minds traveled the noosphere, perhaps referring to their physical bodies remaining in hibernation during these activities, similarly to the Neomuni being able to access the CloudArk while their bodies are in stasis[1].
Prior to encountering the Witness, the Noesis had run afoul of an unknown entity or force, which they referred to as the "whisper ∩ Nightmare ∩ predatory memeplex"; this description suggests that the entity may have been Nezarec, Final God of Pain[2].
Upon first making contact with the Witness, the Noesis were overcome with joy and excitement, which quickly turned to fear and confusion as the Witness began Taking entire planets, dissecting structures and remaking the Noesis' minds and bodies. The last known survivor of the Witness' assault severed themself from the noosphere and recorded a final message using a long-range communications beacon, which was obtained an unknown (but presumably vast) length of time later by The Spider[3].
