Tree of Silver Wings (Io)
From Destinypedia, the Destiny wiki
Following the second arrival of the Black Fleet in the Sol System, a Tree of Silver Wings was discovered by Eris Morn in the Cradle on Io. The relationship of this tree to the original "Tree of Silver Wings", which existed either within the Black Garden or the metaphorical "Garden" that gave rise to the universe, is unclear.
Overview
Unlike the felled "Tree of Silver Wings" in the Black Garden, which was surmised by Eris Morn to have been its parent,[1] the Tree discovered in the Cradle resembles an artificial construct as much as it does a naturally-occurring plant, being composed of a smooth white substance overlaid with complex patterns and segmented by lines of pulsing golden-white light. Its intricate design bears many of the same aesthetic hallmarks as the platforms traversed by the Guardian upon first entering the Pale Heart of the Traveler, as well as the chamber labeled "Verity" within the Witness' Monolith, perhaps suggesting a common origin with the Traveler.[2][3]
History
During the second arrival of the Black Fleet in the Sol System, Osiris traveled beyond the Heliopause at the instruction of Rasputin to find an "anomalous maw", an expanse of Darkness which beckoned him inside. Within, he discovered a Seed, seemingly gifted by a Pyramid.[4] He later received a message from Mara Sov relayed to him through Brother Vance, which instructed him simply to "plant the seed."[5][6] However, Eris Morn claimed the tree had been created by the Traveler back when it was transforming Io during the Golden Age[citation needed]. Eris stated that the tree on Io had a parent tree that had been felled within the Black Garden.[1]
After one of the Pyramids settled over the Cradle, it began projecting a beam directly onto the tree. The tree fed on the paracausal energy and integrated it into itself, with Light and Dark vying for dominance in its structure,[1] and slowly transformed over a period of weeks into a darker version of itself with a crown of more angular, jagged "leaves".[7]
During its transformation, a new branch grew at the base of the tree, which was then taken by the Guardian and crafted into the trace rifle Ruinous Effigy.[8]
Trivia
- A Ghost projection in Eververse refers to the tree as the Sterling Arbor, a synonym for "silver tree".
