"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.

Step 1[edit]

Exfiltrate Sloane.

  • Answer the distress signal on Titan.
    • Complete "The Descent" mission, which can be launched from the H.E.L.M.: 0/1
Notes[edit]

See The Descent mission for the transcript.

Step 2[edit]

  • Reunited with Sloane
    • Reunited with Sloane: 0/1

The Plunge, Dive Tank, New Pacific Arcology, Titan

  • Zavala: What is that?
  • Sloane: An ally. Her name is Ahsa.
  • Zavala: You can communicate with it?
  • Sloane: It's complicated, sir. I get impressions, emotions... ideas. She knows our true enemy. The Witness came for her species too. Discrete concepts are harder. Even more now... since this.

The Drifter cautiously eyes Sloane’s Taken affliction.

  • Drifter: And... you're still... you?
  • Sloane: Every bit. My Light is holding this corruption back, but I can... hear voices whispering. Demanding. It's like being tuned in to the enemy's radio. If we could strengthen my connection with Ahsa, I believe it would improve my ability to communicate through the noise.
  • Drifter: I got some ideas. I'll draw up some specs and drop by soon.

The Drifter transmats out.

  • Zavala: Sloane...
  • Sloane: I'm fine, sir. And I think I'm long overdue for a debriefing.
  • Zavala: As you wish. We'll reconvene at the H.E.L.M.

Zavala and Sloane transmat out.

Step 3[edit]

Sloane has informed you of her connection to Ahsa, and the need to strengthen their bond in order to learn what Ahsa knows about the Witness.

  • Speak with Sloane via the holoprojector in the H.E.L.M.
    • Sloane spoken with: 0/1

Vanguard Orbital Command, Hub for Emergency Logistics and Maneuvers

  • Sloane: Good to be back in contact with the Vanguard. It's an honor to serve with you. The Taken moved in quick after we lost Titan. I had to switch gears: escape, evade, and rotate between extraction points. Survive for another day. That was the mission. I absorbed some of the Taken corruption to tap into their comms... if you can call them that. My bond with Ahsa proved mission critical, too. I owe her my life. Now that Titan's back, the mission's changed. We need more intel on our enemy... the Witness. Drifter claims he knows a way to help Ahsa share that intel — boost the signal so her message can get through. If he's right, then you're going to need some diving equipment. Thankfully, I was able to secure a pair of intact subnauticals from the Arcology's storage units. Feel free to toss out that junk Drifter gave you earlier. This is the real deal.

Despite the ordeal she's been through, Sloane appears to maintain her composure as deputy commander.

"Good to be back in contact with the Vanguard," she says.

While Titan was gone, Sloane took on the Taken corruption in order to better track the enemy's movements as she rotated between extraction points. She also formed a psychic bond with Ahsa, a massive paracausal sea creature that dwells within Kraken Mare.

Ahsa has critically important information regarding the Witness, but her bond with Sloane must be amplified before it can be divulged.

"Drifter claims he knows a way," Sloane tells you, before supplying you with gear that will allow you to explore the depths of Titan's methane sea.
