Werner 99-40 was a Frame and member of the Shadows of Calus who was hacked by the Emperor's Loyalists. After the events of Season of Opulence, he would continue to serve Emperor Calus. He would assist in gathering Scorn for the experiments aboard the Glykon Volatus, would be left in charge of keeping the Leviathan from forces loyal to Empress Caiatl and helping Calus to rise as a Disciple of the Witness. Eventually, Werner would join the Shadow Legion and continued to serve both Calus and the Witness, even after their deaths. With many high-ranking members of the Shadow Legion dead, Werner would assume control of the remnants.
