Not Forged in Light is a quest released in The Taken King expansion. It can be picked up from Lakshmi-2 after completing the Heroic ending of the Paradox mission and turning Praedyth's Ghost to her.

Steps

The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.

Step 1

Ready for War
Earn Reputation through donations to the Future War Cult.

  • FWC Reputation: X%

"A Guardian I've never heard of leaves behind a Ghost I've never seen carrying files stamped with Cult headers, files I would have had to authorize to be stamped that way. This kind of thing is why I wake up in the morning."
― Lakshmi-2

Step 2

Speak to Lakshmi-2
Speak to Lakshmi-2 in the Tower Hanger of the Tower.

Here's how I see it: the Hive want to eat us, the Fallen want our stuff and the Cabal want our planet. But it's the Vex, Guardian, only the Vex can take our past away from us If we're going to understand what these files mean, I'm going to need more context.

Hunt down a powerful Minotaur Taken by Oryx. Destroy it, and pull a simulation core from its husk. Shatter the Core and return to me.

Step 3

The Simulation Core
Track down a powerful Taken Minotaur. Destroy it, then shatter the simulation core it leaves behind.

  • Incomplete

"...saw Darkness. But not in the abstract, not like the Speaker talks about it. Real, flesh and blood Darkness standing before me. It wore a Fallen Captain like he was a suit of clothes. It laughed at me. Reached out a hand. And then I was gone, off to somewhen else."
—File 48743 from Praedyth's Ghost

Step 4

Speak to Lakshmi-2

"IMPERATIVE: CORRUPTED

SEEK LIGHT. DESTROY LIGHT.

OBEY THE COLLECTIVE MIND, OBEY THE #$422*! ORYX. OBEY ORYX."
—Random hash from simulation core data

Excellent work. I'll make good use of the data your Ghost is feeding me. We've spent more time looking through these files, and we believe we know what your next step must be. It will not be an easy one.

Gather a fireteam and return to the Vault of Glass. Confront Time's Conflux, Atheon, and take its eye. Within the eye will be invaluable data. Shatter it, as you did with the simulation core, and then return to me.

Step 5

The Eye of Atheon
Enter the Vault of Glass and destroy Atheon, Time's Conflux. Shatter the eye it leaves behind.

  • Incomplete

"You think of time as a constant companion. Right up until you are drowning in it. Suffused in time, shivering under the glare of the conflux. Then you will know what I know. Time is a predator. And it cannot be sated."
—File 34543 from Praedyth's Ghost

Step 6

Speak to Lakshmi-2

  • Incomplete

"PASSION AND PARADOX. \ AID THE VISION. \ SIMPLICITY REQUIRES COMPLEXITY. \ RESENT THE JOKE. \ GLIMPSE THE CHASM."
—The final thoughts of Atheon, Time's Conflux

Excellent. I'll begin my analysis of Atheon's data at once. In the meantime, I have results from the simulation core. The heart of the Minotaur revealed a... ripple. A snag in the timestream around the Twilight Gap.

Head out to the pass, try to determine what Praedyth's Ghost saw there. Then, return to my side.

Step 7

Approach the Twilight Gap
Set course for the Twilight Gap on Earth.

  • Incomplete

"What are these ripples? These visions? Is the Darkness something that will be? Or something that might be?"
—File 34323 from Praedyth's Ghost

Step 8

Shadows at Twilight
Explore the Twilight Gap and survive the shadows that hangs above it.

  • Incomplete

"It's the Gap. Just like in the historical archives. All laid out before me. But it's…dark. Shadowed. There's some kind of presence hanging over the area. It's sentient, some kind of mind. I can feel it watching me.

There are pools of Light sprinkled about. Like jewels in the night. Then, as fast as it's there, it's gone. And so am I."
—File 34523 from Praedyth's Ghost

Step 9

Speak to Lakshmi-2

  • Incomplete

"You want another story about the Twilight Gap? Ana Bray, the Hunter. We all dug deep that day. We all touched the Light in ways we never thought we could. Or should.

Ana, though. When she fired the Gun, where her Golden blasts hit home, she left behind the pools of light. Like splashes of sunlight that burned and burned."
—Lord Shaxx

Let me see what you... a bracelet. With the symbol of House Bray? Ana Bray's personal sigil? Guardian, the inner circle will be grateful that you have returned this artifact to the Tower.

The data you retrieved from the Eye of Atheon, meanwhile, has pinpointed another ripple. This one is at the heart of the Black Garden.

It is time you returned to Mars. The ripple in the Garden apparently flows from a construct called "the Groundskeeper." Find it, destroy it. And return to my side.

Step 10

Approach the Black Garden Set course for the Black Garden on Mars.

  • Incomplete

"The roles of the Vex, their purpose. Their drive. I can't understand it. Won't understand, didn't understand. But still, they do what they do, the world-minds of the collective passing instructions across time."
—File 34423 from Praedyth's Ghost

Step 11

Blood in the Garden Enter the Black Garden, draw out the Groundskeeper and destroy it.

  • Incomplete

"The Black Garden sprawls before me. It twists and shifts almost too fast to follow, sometimes grounded on Mars, sometimes…somewhere else.'

Through its twisting passages lurches as hulking construct. Called forth by the faith of the Sol Progeny, the Groundskeeper keeps them safe."
—File 34403 from Praedyth's Ghost

Step 12

Speak to Lakshmi-2
Speak to Lakshmi-2 in the Tower Hanger of the Tower.

  • Incomplete

"Every timeline I see through the door of my cell, every sliver of reality, bears one constant. Her. She's always there. Standing sometimes off to the side, sometimes in the foreground. Sometimes sad, sometimes speaking to herself. And always carrying a gun."
—File 00003 from Praedyth's Ghost

And now... what? A ring, with the symbol of the Warlock Pujari? Death, again. Like Ana Bray, a Guardian fallen to the second death. Lost to us. We shall study these objects, Guardian. Learn why they have been pulled through time.

I believe your work is over. For now. Praedyth's files have unspooled. Their data undone like uncoiled strands of hair. And what has fallen free?

A weapon, transmitted from some time and some place, and specifically for you. Someone has taken notice of our actions, Guardian. Someday, we may be able to ask them to explain what all this means.
