Nexus is an elemental manifestation of both the Light and the Darkness, originated from the Void construct of the same name. Originally wielded by the Ancients, Nexus energy is believed to have been spliced from both Void and Solar energy, along with essence from the Blood of the Ancients, giving the ability a deep crimson hue. History
The Enkindlers

Back when the Ancients inhabited Earth, they had just begun to learn the abilities of the Void. At the time, the Ancients were divided amongst petty, feuding tribes who warred for resources. One of these Ancients was the renegade Ohto and his fellow travelers Arzayna , Rais, Zahsa, Emir, and Xair. This small group was hit during an Earthquake, were a Void fissure ripped beneath them and sent them into the depths of the Void. There, they stumbled upon what they described as a great celestial tree with a dark red substance bleeding from it. Upon interacting with the construct, it changed them, giving them strange new abilities. They returned to the material plane with their new abilities, uniting many tribes and conquering the rest. There, above the fissure that brought them to the Veil, the six Nexus wielders, now known as the Enkindlers, lead the Ancient people as they built a mighty city.
However, the Nexus would later be used against the Ancients during their war with the Elder Ones. The Void God Nezarec, who had originally created the Nexus and manipulated Arzayna, used its powers to have the Ancients turn on one another, causing more Void fissures to rip open. In a final attempt, the last four Enkindlers and their remaining Mages used a ritual to would Nezarec and seal the remaining Void fissures. This cut off the Nexus's flow to the material plane, and so for millennia, it remained dormant.
