Into the Abyss is a Destiny 2 quest introduced in Season of the Deep. It acquaints the Guardian with the Void subclass.

"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."

Step 1[edit]

Ikora Rey will be your guide as you train your Light. Follow her instructions, and learn to manipulate the subtleties of Void.

  • Speak with Ikora Rey in the Tower Bazaar.

"If you have ever felt a chill when gazing up at the stars, you know the power of Void." —Ikora

"Ah, a fellow practitioner of Void Light. I hope that in time, you come to regard the cosmic abyss with as much fascination and awe as I do." A warm, almost wistful smile flickers across Ikora's face.

"Mastery will come with time and practice. For the moment, focus on Void's ability to weaken your targets. Weakened foes have a harder time fighting back, giving you an immediate advantage. "

Ikora gives you a piercing look, suddenly stern. "A word of caution, Guardian. Do not emulate me when I was younger: brash, proud, and impatient. Void Light is as subtle as it is potent, and it will take time to master Weaken. Return when you have done so, and I will guide you down the path of greater power."

Step 2[edit]

The utter emptiness of Void can be either horrifying or liberating. It is all a matter of perspective.

  • With a Void Void subclass equipped, defeat weakened targets, defeat targets with abilities, and cast your Super.
Some Void abilities weaken your targets. Weakened targets take increased damage, move more slowly, and fire less accurately.
To make progress, equip abilities, Aspects, Fragments, or gear with the Weaken keyword. For example, the Echo of Undermining Fragment adds a weaken effect to your Void grenades.
    • Void Void weaken: X%
    • Void Abilites: 0/40
    • Supers: 0/3

"After all these years, the infinity of Void is almost comforting to me." —Ikora

Step 3[edit]

Your Ghost's scans detect a source of Void energy on Nessus. And though you can't make out any words, you do hear whispers from the depths of the Orrery. Investigate, and bring anything you find back to Ikora.

  • Complete the Lost Sector Skydock IV in the EDZ, and loot the Lost Sector chest.
    • Lost Sector looted

Void hungers, does it not? It yearns for the antithesis of its own profound desolation.

Notes

The Guardian retrieves a Geodesic Knot from the chest.

Step 4[edit]

Before you can progress, you must broaden your understanding of Void Light. As always, Ikora is ready to show you the way.

  • Purchase the Chaos Accelerant Aspect from Ikora Rey in the Tower Bazaar.
    • Chaos Accelerant purchased

"Remember who you are. Strong roots keep you from drifting into the Void." —Ikora

Step 5[edit]

Before you can progress, you must broaden your understanding of Void Light. As always, Ikora is ready to show you the way.

  • Meditate to learn your new subclass ability. The meditation device is next to Ikora in the Tower Bazaar.

"Impatience is the enemy of comprehension." —Ikora

Step 6[edit]

Ikora will surely take an interest in the object you found in the Orrery. It seems to twist and warp the very space around it.

  • Speak with Ikora Rey in the Tower Bazaar.

The infinite vacuum always remains. Every action echoes through it, touching the universe in unseen ways.

Ikora holds the strange object you found on Nessus. "Does it also whisper to you?" She gives you a faint, knowing smile. "Fear is a natural response to the unknown. But in time, the Void's voice will become familiar to you."

"As for the Vex, the surge in their activity is troubling. I'm sorry to send you back to Nessus so soon, Guardian. But if the Vex were in possession of a Void artifact like this one, we need to be proactive and disrupt their operations."

She presents you with a piece of armor. It's strangely cold to the touch. "This should help you unlock the full potential of Void. When you return from Nessus, find Banshee-44. He'll have something to reward you for your efforts."

"And Guardian…" She does not hide the excitement in her voice. "If you wish to continue uncovering the Void's deepest mysteries, you need but ask."

Notes

The Guardian recieves Heart of Inmost Light, Graviton Forfeit, or Contraverse Hold depending on their class.

Step 7[edit]

Ikora believes you are ready for a final test of your Void Light. Infiltrate the Insight Terminus on Nessus, and feed the Vex who infest it to the hungering Void.

  • Equip your Void subclass and new Exotic armor.
If you no longer have access to your Exotic, it can be reacquired from Collections.
    • Void subclass equipped
    • Heart of Inmost Lightequipped (Titan only)
    • Graviton Forfeit equipped (Hunter only)
    • Contraverse Hold equipped (Warlock only)

"Void is ultimately unknowable. But that should not stop us from trying to comprehend it." —Ikora

Step 8[edit]

Ikora believes you are ready for a final test of your Void Light. Infiltrate the Insight Terminus on Nessus, and feed the Vex who infest it to the hungering Void.

  • Complete the strike "Insight Terminus" on Nessus, with your Void Void subclass and new Exotic armor equipped.
    • "Insight Terminus" completed

"Few can touch the Void without being transformed." —Ikora

Step 9[edit]

Even the taciturn Banshee-44 has heard of your recent victories with Void Light. Your reputation grows, as does your arsenal.

  • Speak with Banshee-44 in the Tower Courtyard.

"Light's nice, but come find me when you need something with a little more kick." —Banshee-44

Banshee-44 gives you a curious look. "Never understood anything Ikora said about the Void. But I know weapons, and she asked me to find one for you."

The weapon that he hands you looks untouched, fresh from the armory. "Let's say you debuff a target with Void. Drop them with this, and you'll get a Void barrier for protection. Should work well with your armor too."

He lapses into a thoughtful silence before speaking up again. "You're not bad at this, Guardian. But nobody knows everything. If you want to get better, ask Ikora to keep teaching you."

Check back with Ikora to continue learning about your Light, including other Aspects, Fragments, abilities, and keywords.

Notes

The Guardian recieves Positive Outlook].
