- "This research has to get out. Even if I don't. People have to know what this 'anomaly' is."
- — Last Recording of Dr. Shanice Pell[1]
Doctor Shanice Pell was a scientist who worked on a deep-space probe project at the New Pacific Arcology on Titan during the Golden Age.
Biography[edit]
- "At last, the freedom and silence to pierce interstellar space for our own answers! Tomorrow, I'm bringing the girls to see the navigation probe launch. They still ask about you from time to time. I just tell them, that's why we're out here, to find you."
- — Pell, in a letter to her late wife
Pell was married and had daughters, but her partner died under unknown circumstances. Afterwards, Pell put most of her focus into creating a deep space probe project at the independent research arcologies on Titan. After years of work and interference from both the Ishtar Collective and Clovis Bray Corporation, Pell's work paid off and the probes were scheduled for launch. Pell wrote a letter in her diary directed to her late partner, expressing her happiness at the project finally beginning and that she intended to take their daughters to the launch the following day.[2]
After the probe was launched, Pell directed that it be sent towards an anomaly that they detected to learn what it was.[3] However, the data the probe sent back made no sense to Pell and the signal from the probe soon cut out, leaving her confused as to what they had discovered.[4] Pell decided that they needed more data on the anomaly, and also cautiously put the laboratory on yellow alert in case it turned out to be something dangerous.[5]
Upon learning of the anomaly's true nature, Pell desperately tried to send her research out to warn the rest of the Sol System, even if it would cost her her life. However, her research warranted enough attention for the Warmind Rasputin to send Exo infantry armed with lethal weapons to secure the research in the midst of an evacuation prompted by the beginning of the Collapse. Thanks to the deliberate failure of New Pacific Administrator Mia van der Venne to renew a hold order, Pell was unknowingly alerted of the incoming Exos by unrelated Clovis Bray activity to resolve a situation where an executive was detained after the hold order ended. Unfortunately, as her evacuation shuttle took flight, it was struck down by a Warsat, killing Pell and everyone else onboard.[6]
