"Clear out the Knight that's keeping Sloane's crews from their work"
— In game description

Deathless is an Adventure located on Titan, taking place during the Red War. It is unlocked at the same time as the adventure Siren Song after completion of the final mission on Titan, Utopia.

During the course of Deathless a Hive Knight which has been harassing Sloane's repair crews is ordered killed. However the Knight just wont die, leading the player on a journey through the Arcology as they chase after and destroy each successive reincarnation of the Knight, Takul-Dar, the Unbreakable, until all the wizards responsible for his resurrections are defeated and the Knight can at last be permanently killed.

Gameplay

The Rig
Start Adventure

Sloane]: Good, it's you. I'm getting reports from Holliday's crews about a Knight with a strange aura around it. It's playing merry hell with our schedule.

Amanda Holliday: My crews know how to get 'er done, Sloane. Regular maintenance is the difference between a Sparrow that races and a Sparrow that rusts.

Sloane: Sure. But this rig isn't winning any races. That Knight is in my way. Take it out.

Find the Knight
Track down the Knight keeping Sloane's crews from their work
The player enters the Solarium finding the Knight in question, Takul-Dar, the Unbreakable, with its invincible shields being powered by the nearby "Necromantis" Wizard
Eliminate the Knight
Eliminate the Knight keeping Sloane's crews from their work
The player kills the Necromantis, weakening Takul-Dar's shields and allowing him to be killed.
A green orb of Hive magic floats above the Knight's dead body after the player kills him, before zooming off further into the Arcology.

Ghost: We took out the Knight. But I'm not sure it's dead. Some kind of magic allowed it to escape.

Sloane: New Hive spells. Just what we need. Get after it, you two.

Eliminate the Knight
Eliminate the Knight keeping Sloane's crews from their work
The player pursues Takul-Dar into the Solarium proper, finding the Knight reincarnated in the middle of the room, supported by another Necromantis and some more Hive.

GHost: This is just irritating. Now I know how the Cabal feel about us.

Sloane: I am not in the mood for this. Keep after him. Their spells can't keep that thing safe forever

The player kills the Necromantis, exposing Takul-Dar to be killed once again. The Knight's soul hovers over the corpse before taking off again, into the Festering Halls

Ghost: Ugh. What do we have to do to kill this thing?

Follow the Knight
Continue tracking the Knight

Sloane: I've been fighting the Hive for - well - longer than I would like to admit. This is some kind of ritual.

Holliday: They're loosing on purpose? Like - what - throwing a hand in poker?

Sloane: Maybe. What's their goal, though? Why let this thing die over and over again?

Festering Halls
Restricted Zone, Titan
The player enters the area and engages the Hive protecting Takul-Dar.
Eliminate the Knight
Eliminate the Knight keeping Sloane's crews from their work
This time there are two Necromantis Wizards. The player kills them both and destroys Takul-Dar once more.

Ghost: All right. That's three. Sloane, you want us to keep going?

Sloane: If this is a ritual, then this is leading somewhere. I want the two of you there at the end, whatever that looks like.

Follow the Knight
Continue tracking the Knight
The player continues into the Festering Halls, dropping through the giant hole in the floor into the dark area below. Progression is magically blocked by a trio of Hive runes, and the area is filled with three currently dormant Shriekers.
Interact

The player interacts with the barrier, triggering the Shrikers to start attacking the player one per wave as more Hive arrive to ambush the player. Each time a Shrieker is killed a Seal breaks, and a new wave of Hive appears. When each wave is killed the next Shrieker activates and attacks the player.

Continue tracking the Knight
The player continues on through the now unlocked passage into the large room beyond where Takul-Dar and more Hive await them, along with one more Necromantis Wizard.
End the Knight
Defeat the undying Knight one more time

Ghost: All right. One more time.

The player kills the last Necromantis, leaving Takul-Dar, the Unbreakable without any protection as the player then finally kills him once and for all.

Ghost: You were right, Sloane. Apply enough firepower and apparently even Hive magic breaks.

Sloane: Good work, both of you. You know, Holliday and I were just talking about how different we are from the Hive.

Holliday: Yeah, yeah. They worship death, we serve the Light. Good vs evil, black hats and white hats... Really makes you think.

Ghost: Thinking about switching sides, Amanda?

Sloane: Oh no. Amanda goes rogue and we'll have Thrall buzzing the control center inside of a week. Ahem. But, uh, let's get back to work.

{End Gameplay}

{End Mission}

Trivia[edit]

  • Holliday's use of "White Hats" and "Black Hats" may be a reference to a categorical distinction within the cyber security and hacking community, in which a "White Hat" is someone who uses their powers for good and ethical purposes and frequently describes a hacker employed by a company to expose security vulnerabilities in a client's facilities so they can be fixed. Fixes to eliminate discovered vulnerabilities being necessary because of the existence of the so called "Black Hats" who utilise their skills for criminal purposes, and rather than reporting and fixing discovered vulnerabilities and breaches, will take advantage of them personally or sell the information on to another criminal party to take advantage of.
