"Their only tactic seems to be 'slow advance.' The problem is, they're really good at it."
Grimoire description. [1]

Legionaries are the Cabal's frontline infantry and military backbone on the ground. [2]

Overview

Common Legionary tactics focus on the bounding advance: while some units attack the target, others attempt to close the gap between them or find new firing positions. [3] They are supported by Centurions and Phalanxes,[4] [5] and their heavy armor and weaponry is enough to overcome even the bravest of Guardians.[4]

Gameplay

Destiny

Legionaries are the most common Cabal troops. Because of this, they are most deadly when faced in numbers, allowing them to continuously lay down suppressing fire using their Slug Rifles, or in rare scenarios, Projection Rifles. They are the most durable form of basic infantry out of all those seen in the other enemy races due to their heavy armor, which, as much as it makes them look cumbersome, has jump jets built in to them, allowing Legionaries limited flight for more mobility. However, because they tend to fight in groups, they are best separated through area-of-effect attacks such as rocket launchers and grenades.

Destiny 2

In Destiny 2, they gain the ability to deploy swords from their free wrists to make melee attacks. These swords may also be fired at the player, exploding like a fragmentation grenade on hitting the ground. They typically use Cabal Slug Shotguns, though some continue to wield Slug Rifles. [6]
