- "Warlocks have long studied the Traveler, mastering some of its arcane energies. Its true purpose remains a great mystery, but discovering truth has always driven you into the unknown. Now, our enemies are the only thing that stands between you and the lost wonders of our Golden Age."
- — Class description
The Warlock is a class of Guardian. Warlocks utilize powers given by the Traveler (or "magic") as a mode of attack. One example of this have been creating shields, as seen in one piece of concept art.
Abilities
All Guardians have certain abilities, some of which are granted by the Traveler, others which may appear more mundane in nature. Thus far, all Guardians have demonstrated some form of high-damage ability (Warlocks/Nova Bomb, Hunters/Golden Gun, Titans/Fists of Havoc), as well as a "grenade-type" ability whose effects vary by class. Additionally, both the Warlock and the Titan are confirmed to have double-jump abilities. The Warlock's ability, "Glide", has only been named and confirmed in writing:[1], while the Titan's double-jump ability has been demonstrated during gameplay[2]. While it is likely that, in the interests of balanced gameplay, the Hunter has a similar double-jump ability, to-date it remains unconfirmed. What has been confirmed is that these abilities can be upgraded over time.[3], that they can be used in competetive PvP, and that the abilities demonstrated thus far merely "scratch the surface" of what will be available.[4]
The Warlock has at least 3 special abilities:[1]
- Solar Flare: Conjure the power of the sun and release it like a grenade.
- Nova Bomb: Channel some of the Traveler’s mysterious forces and unleash them in an explosive, large area-of-effect attack. When used, the user jumps and releases a large purplish blast from one of their hands.
- Glide: Summons the forces around you to increase and sustain elevation after jumping.
Trivia
In The Law Of The Jungle, the Warlock is seen about to perform an attack near the end of the trailer in which a ball of fire is held in between the hands. This may be a direct reference to the "Hadoken" attack of the Street Fighter franchise.
