"The Shrapnel Launcher is a simple, effective, robust weapons system that the Fallen can build without risking vital resources.

The weapon fires loose-forged canisters of explosives and shrapnel down electromagnetic rails embedded in the barrel. Captains favor this weapon for its intimidating presence. It deals Solar damage.[1]"

Shrapnel Launchers are heavy-duty weapons employed by the Fallen.

Gameplay

The Shrapnel Launcher fires fast traveling Solar projectiles, who spread slightly while in flight, until they dissipate when reaching their maximum range. As such, wielders often try to get in close, firing on the run to disorient their targets. The weapon is favored by Fallen Captains, who use their resilience to get in range of the enemy, as well as Marauders and Stealth Vandals, who use their invisibility to surround Guardians before unleashing simultaneous volleys. The rare Dregs with the weapons use their numbers to overwhelm foes with a hail of shots, although they have forego their Shock Daggers in the name of firepower. Vandals with the weapon are rare, usually employed as bodyguards by high ranking enemies.

The Taken use a version of the weapon that deals Arc damage, with a longer range and wider projectile spread. In addition to Taken Captains, who use it much like their regular counterparts, it is also often in the hands of Taken Vandals, who instead use it at longer ranges.

The Devil Splicers use a SIVA enhanced version which deals greater damage and has higher muzzle velocity, as well as an erratic trajectory.

Trivia

  • Two of these weapons can be found inside the Tower alongside a collection of Cabal weaponry.
  • Guardians can use a wieldable version of the Shrapnel Launcher, the Lord of Wolves Shotgun.
    • While the casque of the weapon appears to be maroon, the casque on the Lord of Wolves is brown.
  • While the Scorn have a different arsenal, one of their champions, Elikaa, Sworn to Vengeance, used to wield a Shrapnel Launcher. It is unknown if it was a developer oversight or not.
  • Following the release of Beyond Light, Taken Shrapnel Launchers, when wielded by larger Ultra Taken Captains, began to function like regular Shrapnel Launchers, with the same sound effects and dealing Solar damage instead of the Arc damage they normally do. It is unknown if it is a developer oversight or not.
