The Sol System as depicted in the Director

The Sol System (also known as the Solar System or simply Sol) is the planetary system inhabited by Humanity. During the Golden Age, humanity forged an empire that spanned much of the system, but retreated to Earth following the catastrophic effects of the Collapse and abandoned their many worlds to various other forces.

The system is currently inhabited by both the Traveler and the Darkness, the latter is in the midst of sieging the system with its Black Fleet. The planets and the Sun are also associated with dark-matter based intelligences that make up the Nine.

Notable celestial bodies

Celestial Bodies
Image Celestial Body Description
Sun1.jpg Sun Also known as Sol, it is the native star of the Sol System.
Mercury1.jpg Mercury The first and closest planet to the Sun. Mercury was transformed into a garden world by the Traveler. Later, the Vex converted it into a planet-sized Machine World.[1] The planet disappeared due to a gravitational anomaly caused by the Black Fleet.
Venus1.jpg Venus The second largest terrestrial planet, it is a volcanic jungle world and home to the Ishtar Academy; humanity's greatest center of learning. Occupied by the Vex and the Fallen House of Winter.[2]
Earth1.jpg Earth The largest terrestrial planet and homeworld of the Human species. Due to heavy presence of alien enemies such as Fallen, Hive, Cabal, and Taken, the only safe Human settlement is The Last City. Notable cities such as London and Manhattan are unfit for Human habitat.[3]
Moon1.jpg Moon Also known as Luna, it is Earth's only proper natural satellite. Humanity established a small colony to supply the rest of the system. The Hive built a stronghold around a Pyramid. The moon also has a minor Fallen and Vex presence.[4]
Mars1.jpg Mars The fourth planet and the third largest terrestrial planet in the Sol System. Humanity established the city, Freehold, and built BrayTech Futurescape and Rasputin. Occupied by the Cabal and Vex, with the Hive presence by Hellas Basin.[5] The planet disappeared due to a gravitational anomaly caused by the Black Fleet. It has recently reappeared for unknown reasons.
Phobos1.jpg Phobos One of the two asteroid moons orbiting Mars, the Psion Flayers altered its natural orbit.[6] The Cabal established an outpost for the Skyburners until the Taken invaded and destroyed their base.[7]
Deimos1.jpg Deimos The smaller asteroid satellite of Mars. It can be seen above the Meridian Bay sky opposite Phobos.
Ceres1.jpg Ceres A dwarf planet and largest object in the main Asteroid Belt. It was destroyed by the Awoken after they attacked the House of Wolves colony with Harbingers.[8] The space station Cocytus once fell into the control of Crota and continues to orbit the dwarf in a heliocentric orbit. During the Taken War, hundreds of Hive Seeder Ships landed on Ceres.
AsteroidBelt1.jpg Asteroid Belt A ring of many solid, irregularly shaped asteroids located within the orbits of Jupiter and Mars. It is home to the Awoken who have settled on a field of debris called The Reef and on asteroids such as 4 Vesta, 2 Pallas, 10 Hygiea, 65 Cybele, and 5560 Amytis.[9] A series of conflicts spanned across the belt called the Reef Wars.[10]
Jupiter1.jpg Jupiter The fifth and largest planet in the Sol System. It is a gas giant prominent for its Great Red Spot; a giant storm swirling within the planet, and many moons that orbit it, most notably the Jovian Moons. The Moons of Jupiter became a major cornerstone of Golden Age advancements and once the settlements of the House of Wolves.[11]
Io1.jpg Io The third largest and innermost moon of Jupiter. The moon is geologically active with many volcanoes that produce sulphuric plumes and partially terraformed by the Traveler. The Vex occupied and built structures across the moon and fought against the Cabal and Taken. Later the Black Fleet created a gravitational anomaly and the moon has since disappeared.
Europa1.jpg Europa The fourth largest moon of Jupiter. An icy moon comprised of silicate rocks and water-ice crust. Humanity established a colony and Clovis Bray I built his secret Deep Stone Crypt and Bray Exoscience facilities on the moon. It is occupied by the Vex and the House of Salvation, who have also built Riis-Reborn. A Pyramid is present on the surface.
Ganymede1.jpg Ganymede The largest moon in the Sol System, it rivals Mercury in size. The Vex have been mentioned to have a large presence on the moon with structures.
Callisto1.jpg Callisto The second largest moon of Jupiter and third largest moon overall in the Sol System. It is prominent for its Thrall-carved tunnels that were burrowed by the Hive.[12]
Saturn2.jpg Saturn The sixth and second largest planet in the Sol System behind Jupiter. It is a gas giant prominent for its ring system comprised of ice particles and many orbiting moons. In the Battle of Saturn, the Dreadnaught created a massive hole within Saturn's ring system and the Hive warship now lays dormant in orbit within the "C" and "B" rings.[13]
Enceladus.jpg Enceladus A moon of Saturn, once rumoured to house the Deep Stone Crypt, but has since been discovered on Europa.
Dione1.jpg Dione Also known as Saturn IV, it is moon of Saturn where the Orchard crystals can be found and when exposed can produce a force conduction.
Rhea1.jpg Rhea Also known as Saturn V, it is the second largest moon of Saturn. The Cauldrons of Rhea sparked political tensions between the Nine and the Awoken.[14] Skolas was gifted as a gesture to improve relations, but an Agent of the Nine released him to begin the Wolf Rebellion.
TelestoMoon1.jpg Telesto Also known as Saturn XIII and Tethys B, it is moon of Saturn. Following the Battle of Saturn, the moon attracted a cloud of Harbinger matter.
TitanMoon1.jpg Titan The largest moon of Saturn, it is unique for its methane ocean and home to Golden Age cities built above the sea level. The Hive and House of Dusk engaged in a conflict for the moon. Later the Black Fleet created a gravitational anomaly and the moon has since disappeared.
Hyperion1.jpg Hyperion Also known as Saturn VII, it is a moon of Saturn and once home of Ishtar Collective scientists. The moon was a key trading partner with Titan.
Nessus1.jpg Nessus Also known as 7066 Nessus, it is a centaur planetoid. The Vex converted it into a Machine World which drew the attention of the Red Legion. Later, the Leviathan entered its orbit and partially consumed sections of the planetoid to produce Royal Wine for Emperor Calus.
Uranus.jpg Uranus The seventh planet of the Sol System, and also a gas giant that features a ring system. The Caelus Station built by the corporation of Clovis Bray I orbits the planet.[15]
Neptune1.jpg Neptune The eighth and farthest known planet from the Sun, it is a gas giant and referenced in the Uranus-Neptune divide.
Pluto.jpg Pluto A planet reclassified as a dwarf planet on the edge of the Sol System. The Exos of Clovis Bray I attracted Vex attention to the planet.[16]
