The Sword of Light is a Sword fashioned by the Traveler in Destiny 2: The Final Shape expansion and is given to the player to wield as a weapon against the Witness's Dissenting voices to sever them from its collective. The sword appears in the mission Iconoclasm and Excision where it is used to sever Dissenting Voices from the Collective Mind of the Witness.
Gameplay
The Sword of Light functions just like the Hive Cleaver in its attack pattern, however lacking the Sword's shockwave attack from its Super.
In Iconoclasm, the sword is used 3 times to shatter 3 Veiled Statues of Dissenting Voices within its Collective. This act wounds the Witness and it retaliates violently, forcing the Guardian to flee. It also sets the tone for how the weapon is intended to be used.
In Excision, the sword appears within the Collective for all 12 players to pick up and go to town smashing every statue they can in the current section, opening the Witness up for a Damage Phase. The Severing of Voices occurs a maximum of 3 times.
Trivia
- The Guardian would be gifted a non-relic version of this weapon in the form of the Ergo Sum by the Traveler as seen in the Hope (Exotic Mission).
- The Sword of Light unlike the Ergo Sum is a greatsword as it has a cross guard. Whereas the Ergo Sum appears to be a longsword as it does not possess cross guard.
