Tevis Larsen[1] was a sly Hunter and a friend of Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6, who described him as a "lying cheat". Apart from owing Cayde a large amount of Glimmer, Tevis was a well-respected and revered member of the Nightstalkers, a Hunter subclass which uses the Void to dispatch enemy forces quickly. He is also mentioned to have been good friends with Andal Brask and Shiro-4, as well as Cayde-6.
Biography
At some point, Tevis encountered the Golden Age AI Rasputin, which he claimed that the Warmind was not an ally of the Last City nor cared if Humanity and the Traveler survived according to its own words.[1]
During the Taken War, Telvis had the desire to traverse the Black Garden after hearing of the Awoken found a way in. He and his Ghost would both scout at the Ishtar Sink on Venus until both were separated on opposite sides of a Warp Gate at the Endless Steps, leaving his Ghost to fend for himself while Tevis was left stranded at the depths of the garden. Meanwhile, the Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6 would send forth the Guardian to locate Tevis as he stepped through the gate and hailed him on their comms, only to have arrived too late as the Vex destroyed his Ghost and left Tevis with little Light on his Dusk Bow to find himself with.[2]
Despite the Guardian's best efforts to reach his location, Tevis was ultimately killed by the Sol Divisive and found dead in the Black Garden. Upon finding his corpse, Cayde-6 instructs the Guardian to pick up his Light-infused Dusk Bow, unlocking the Nightstalker subclass before tasking them to kill all of the Vex in the vicinity for his fallen friend.[3]
However, echoes of Tevis' consciousness would continue to persist within the Darkness of the Black Garden; where they reached the Guardian through the Light they had previously taken from him. Despite having been untethered from the Void, Telvis offered his advice about the nature of the Vex whilst drawing parallels between Lightbearers and the Sol Divisive as both parties draw their power from a greater source (being the Traveler and the Black Heart respectively). He also issued a final warning to not overbear themselves with questions lest they would drown in the confusion of them. [4]
Quotes
- "I've had a dozen Hunters ask me why it's so hard to summon a Dusk Bow. I asked 'em what they thought of the Void, and their eyes told me everything. You can't be afraid. That's the secret. No fear."[3]
- "I gave up on the Traveler long ago. But when I heard the Awoken had found a way into the Garden, I couldn't resist."[2]
- "Some soldiers tire. Others fall as the battle rages on. For the Bladedancer, every foe slain becomes a new lease on life." [5]
- "Rasputin isn't an ally. You hear me, blood? You find yourself thinking that, you shut it down. He may not be against us, but he doesn't care if you live, if the City lives, if the Traveler lives. Trust me. He told me himself." [1]
- "Doesn't matter how good you are—you stay out there too long, you're not coming back. Not the same way you left, anyway." [6]
- "Why is it golden? Well, let's see, what's the fundamental force we're dealing with here? Solar energy, right? Like, from the Sun? I swear, you kids come out of the Tower greener and greener every year. Why is it gold? Feh." [7]
- "Don't believe Cayde. Half the things out of his mouth are lies, the other half are fibs. My favorite line of his? Oh, easy. He likes to say he stole the secret of stealth tech from Rasputin, and that's how Bladedancers learned the trick. Hah!" [7]
- "One good throw and they're staring right into the void. No lookin' away from that." [8]
