Glimmer
From Destinypedia, the Destiny wiki
“ | The Currency of the City. A programmable matter used as a source of power before the Collapse. Glimmer is shared between all of your characters. | ” |
Glimmer is a type of currency. It can be used to upgrade weapons,[1] and buy items.[2] Majors and Ultras (enemies with yellow health bars) such as Rixis, Archon Slayer drop glimmer when killed.[1] Normal enemies only drop glimmer if the player has used Ether Seeds, Black Wax Idol, Blue Polyphage, or Resupply Codes. Glimmer is also gained by disassembling items or finding some in chests[2]. Another source of glimmer is selling House Banners, Silken Codexes, Axiomatic Beads, and Network Keys to the Cryptarch for 200 glimmer each.
Glimmer is capped at 25,000; one way of dealing with the cap is to stockpile the aforementioned items and sell them to the Cryptarch when needed.
Glimmer is apparently a natural resource that can be extracted from the ground, as the Fallen will attempt to do so with portable drills in some Public Events.[3]
