Shadowkeep is the main quest line for the expansion of the same name.

Steps

Step i

Travel to the Moon and stave off the Hive resurgence alongside your fellow Guardians.

Find Eris Morn at the encampment in Sanctuary.

• Eris Morn: Ghaul… The Fanatic… Crota. Like living nightmares, your past confronts you, Guardian. Old scars reopen around me as well. Phantoms of my friends return with a malice they never truly had. Every one of them, the twisted will of that looming Pyramid. We must not let it distract us from our goal: finding a way inside. Together, we have conquered our enemies. We will do it again.

"A phantom of my deceased fireteam member Sai Mota haunts me. It is only a trick of the Pyramid."

From the Nightmare of Crota, you received an unknown object that harbors a dark energy. You leave it with Eris Morn so she can unearth its secrets.

In the meantime, the Moon hosts further mysteries to uncover regarding entering the Pyramid. The Hive seem to be exhibiting strange behavior that may be related.

A Nightmare of Omnigul has stormed through the lunar encampment.

Return to Sanctuary to speak with Eris Morn.

• Eris Morn: Sai Mota screams as she did the day Omnigul tore her apart and silenced her forever. Our fates nearly intertwined today when a Nightmare of Omnigul swept through camp. My survival was a gift, granted by the Essence you retrieved from the Crota Nightmare. Were we to truly harness the power of this Essence, it may provide aid in the fight against the Nightmares — and beyond, to the Pyramid itself. It knows we're coming. I can sense it. And we will have the upper hand.

"It appears the screams of Sai's phantom have brought forth another burden for me to bear-the phantom of Vell Tarlowe."

As the Nightmare of Omnigul swept through camp, Eris noticed a strange reaction from the Essence of Despair. Upon further investigation, it appears the Essence can be of use in fighting these Nightmares. But first, it must be cleansed of any dark energy.

Take the Essence of Despair and purify it any way you can. Then, return to Eris Morn.

Step 3

Eris believes the Essence dropped by the Nightmare of Crota is a key to entering the Pyramid and learning the truth behind its presence on the Moon.

Cleanse the Essence of Despair to allow Eris to learn its secrets.

Complete the quest "Essence of Despair."

• Eris Morn: In the depths of the Hellmouth, my very soul was shattered into pieces. It was all I could do to try and pick them up again. But some pieces, as you can see, required replacing. I must call upon one of them now — an ancient Talisman imbued with the magic of the Hive. Without it, the true power of the Nightmare Essence could not be harnessed. Through their union, we take our first step toward unearthing the secrets of the Pyramid. But it is only a step. Further Essences require further Hive magic, neither of which I possess. Acquire both, and our path to the Pyramid should present itself.

"The Pyramid wastes no time—a phantom of Toland has arrived with every intention of distracting me. It will not work."

During Eris's time in the Hellmouth, she discovered many Hive curios. All that remained was an ancient talisman pulsating with Hive magic. Now, the union between the talisman and the Essence of Despair has yielded a powerful tool in the fight against the Nightmares.

Take this piece of Dreambane armor and use it to hunt the Nightmare of Omnigul.

Step 5

Eris used a Hive talisman of her own to create the first piece of protective armor.

To pass beyond the Pyramid's warding and discover what lies within, you'll need to wear a full set of Dreambane armor.

• Eris Morn: Blind devotion is a dangerous thing, but when it came to Crota, Omnigul knew no other way. She raised for him an army of Hive and tore apart throngs of Guardians. Omnigul left much suffering in her wake. Suffering the Pyramid now uses against us. It expects us to fall to that which we have conquered. Not today.

The Guardian defeats the Nightmare of Omnigul.

• Ghost: Eris, the Nightmare of Omnigul is taken care of. For now, anyway.

• Eris Morn: Did you retrieve any further Essence?

• Ghost: We did. This time unique to this Nightmare.

• Eris Morn: I see. Then we will uncover its secrets together. Until then, the Hive await you inside the Scarlet Keep. Let me know what you find within.

Step 6

Speak with Eris Morn to learn what she believes lies within the Scarlet Keep.

Step 7

Investigate the Scarlet Keep to locate more Hive curios and discover a connection between the Hive and the Pyramid.

Launch the strike "The Scarlet Keep" from the Moon on the Director.

Cleanse the Essence of Anguish dropped by Omnigul.

It can be viewed in the Quests tab of the Director.

Hashladûn's death has yielded information of great value: the existence of the Hive Cryptoglyph and where to find it.

Return to Eris Morn with news of the Hive Cryptoglyph uncovered during the strike "The Scarlet Keep."

Somewhere in the horrific depths of the Hellmouth lies the Hive Cryptoglyph. With it, Eris Morn can craft further Dreambane armor for your quest to find a way inside the Pyramid.

The Cryptoglyph is yours to take from the Hive… if you can.

Step 11

Taking the Cryptoglyph from the Catacombs has interrupted the dark rituals planned by the Hidden Swarm… for now.

With the Cryptoglyph and Eris's magic, you should be able to craft further Dreambane armor.

Return to Eris Morn with the Cryptoglyph.

Use the Cryptoglyph to empower the Lectern of Enchantment near Eris Morn.

Ikora has arrived on the Moon to see the Pyramid for herself and deliver a message.

Take the portal near Eris to meet Ikora in the Enduring Abyss on the Moon.

Defeat the three remaining Nightmare bosses to collect their Essences: the Essence of Fear, the Essence of Isolation, and the Essence of Pride.

Each piece of Dreambane armor crafted is another step closer to entering the Pyramid and searching within for anything that can help stave off the impending threat Ikora has warned us about.
