The Sanguine were a faction of Awoken that arose during the early days of Awoken civilization in the Distributary. Dwelling in the Distributary's cities, the Sanguine believed that the existence of the Awoken was a gift and that the Awoken had no responsibility to resolve the conflict between Light and Darkness that had birthed them. Their ideology had the practical effect of justifying cutting off all contact with the Earth.[1]
