Adept weapons are a distinct group of Legendary and Exotic weapons first appearing in House of Wolves within the Trials of Osiris that contain extra intrinsic perks. In Destiny 2, Adept weapons are exclusively legendary weapons, contain two exclusive perks, have special mods only available on Adept weapons, and give bonus stats upon masterwork.

Destiny

House of Wolves marks the first time Adept weapons were introduced, acquired from the chest within The Lighthouse by getting a flawless card in the Trials of Osiris.

House of Wolves

Adept weapons earned during this time were given a random element, instead of kinetic damage.

Trials of Osiris

The Taken King

Adept weapons earned during this time were intrinsically given the perk Last Resort:

  • This weapon handles and reloads faster when the wielder is the last living player of their Fireteam.

Trials of Osiris

Age of Triumph

With the introduction of Age of Triumph, the first and only set of Exotic Adept weapons were made available from completing encounters within the Weekly Featured Raid. All Adept raid weapons are elemental, with Vault of Glass and Crota's End weapons retaining the same elements as their Year 1 counterparts.

Wrath of the Machine

Wrath of the machine weapons feature a different naming scheme, instead putting double parenthesis around the name to signify it being adept.

Destiny 2

Adept weapons debuted for the fist time in Destiny 2 inside of Season of the Hunt. Getting an Adept Trials of Osiris weapon is the same as it was in Destiny, requiring a flawless trip to the lighthouse and an opening of the chest. New types of weapons can also be Adept, including special and heavy weapons. Season of the Chosen added Adept variations of Nightfall weapons, which have a chance of dropping from the Grandmaster difficulty.

Adept weapons have a special set of Adept mods that can be earned at the same time as Nightfall or Trials of Osiris Adept weapons. Masterworking an Adept weapon also gives a bonus to other stats not focused by the masterwork.

All Adept Trials of Osiris and Nightfall weapons that drop after the release of Season of the Splicer contain an extra perk in the third column, Celerity and Bottomless Grief respectively.

  • Celerity: Increases weapon handling and reload speed. Gain the following effects while you are the last living member of your fireteam:

Increased target acquisition
Increased handling and reload speed
Reduced flinch from incoming fire

  • Bottom Grief: Increases magazine size. While you are the last living member of your fireteam, each final blow refills your magazine.

A rework that came with the release of Season of the Lost allows two more ways to get Trials of Osiris Adepts, continuing to get wins on a flawless passage or focusing Trials Engrams with Saint-14 to acquire rolls of previously earned Adept Trials of Osiris weapons.

Season of the Splicer

Season of the Splicer introduced a new type of Adept weapon, Timelost weapons, exclusive to the Vault of Glass raid's Master mode. Each week features a new encounter challenge, rotating on a weekly basis, for a total of five weeks, with the Timelost Found Verdict being awarded through a triumph after collecting all other Timelost weapons.

Timelost weapons are guaranteed to have a selectable second perk in the third and fourth column that is static on each weapon, effectively reducing the luck required for a specific roll. Timelost weapons also have access to all Adept Mods, and gain a bonus to other stats after masterworking.
