Champions are special boss enemies introduced in Shadowkeep. They appear in The Ordeal, seasonal activites, on the Moon, and in the Garden of Salvation Raid.

Overview

Champions come in three varieties; Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable. A given enemy race has a Champion for two of the three types, and can be easily identified by red, tendril-like growths and dark coloration. Countering a Champion's special attribute stuns them, and players will be notified by a sound and a text prompt.

  • Barrier Champions behave the most like regular bosses, but once they are damaged to an extent, they will deploy a dome shield that regenerates their health while allowing them to continue attacking. Their shield can only be damaged by Anti-Barrier weapons.
  • Overload Champions have health regeneration and accelerated ability regeneration, allowing them to use these abilities aggressively. They can be stunned by Overload weapons.
  • Unstoppable Champions will attack relentlessly from all ranges, and can be staggered only with Unstoppable weapons.

Weapons used for countering Champions also have utility against other enemies.

  • Anti-Barrier weapons will bypass defences such as those utilized by Phalanxes and Hydras and do extra damage to Titan Barricades in PvP modes. Taken Phalanx shields cannot be bypassed.
  • Overload weapons will decrease enemy damage output and delay PvP opponent ability regeneration.
  • Unstoppable weapons will stagger unshielded enemies, and produce an explosive effect capable of area-of-effect damage.
