With little time and though the portal was unstable, Zavala decided to enact Operation Ahamkara, leading himself, Ikora Rey and The Guardian to pass through the Threshold, find Crow, open the way for reinforcements and stop The Witness once and all. The Guardian, Ikora and Zavala succeeded in entering The Traveler's [[Pale Heart]] but lost all outside contact and became separated from each other. Nonetheless, the Guardian managed to find Crow after making a surprise reunion with a revived Cayde-6. Together, they managed to reunite the Vanguard. After many risky gambles, resisting The Witness's temptations, and the sacrifice of Zavala's Ghost, [[Targe]], the group managed to gain vital knowledge on how to defeat The Witness. They learned that the consciousness' that make the Witness are not as united in enacting the Final Shape as once believed. A number of dissenters cryptically conveyed that the Light itself can be used to destroy the Witness by targeting the collective consciousness that make up the Witness. This proved true when the Guardian confronted the Witness and managed to wound it, sending The Witness into a terrifying fury, forcing the group to retreat. By that time, Mara succeeded in getting through the portal with the H.E.L.M., saving the Guardian and the others from being killed.
