The Light, otherwise simply referred to as "magic,"[1] is a type of force[2] that stems from the Traveler.[3] Guardians are the rare few able to wield it, and use the Light as a weapon.[4] Additionally, combined with machinery, the Light was used to construct the Ghosts.[5] Orbs of Light may also be found, which give power to a Guardian's Super, their ultimate use of the Light.[6] The Light is antipathic to the Hive.[7]

Light, as used by the Guardians, comes in three different varieties - Solar Light, which does fire damage and is red in color, Arc Light, which is electrified and is blue in color, and Void Light, which is purple in color. A Guardian's chosen subclass may focus on attacks using one of these lights; Striker, for example, has primarily Arc Light abilities, while Voidwalker has primarily Void Light abilities. Weapons can also be infused with one of these three lights as well.
