Objective:	Recover an infamous Weapon of Sorrow from the Hive and cleanse its corruption.

A Light in the Dark was an Exotic Weapon Bounty that ultimately rewarded the hand cannon Thorn. The bounty was previously available in Year 1 from Xander 99-40 after turning in an Vanguard Mentor Missive, but was made unavailable in The Taken King expansion.

Steps

Step 1

Complete "The Summoning Pits" Strike on the Moon.

"The Weapons of Sorrow were born from forbidden use of the Hive's dark power. We thought them eradicated.

But recent developments suggest one of these weapons may still exist in the Hive's Summoning Pits."

Notes

Complete the strike on any difficulty to obtain the Depleted Hand Cannon.

Step 2

Harvest the energies of Hive on the Moon to activate the weapon.

Notes

A normal enemy is worth 1 point, an Major is worth 20, and an Ultra is worth 50.

Step 3

Use Void Damage to defeat Guardians in the Crucible. Death will slow your progress.

Go to the Crucible and allow the weapon to feast off the Light of defeated Guardians."

Notes

5 points are gained per kill while 2 are lost per death, meaning that progress is made as long as the average ratio of void kills to deaths is sustained above 0.4. Kills must be made with a weapon or skill that does Void damage while Assists do not count. Complete this step to obtain the Corrupted Hand Canon.

Step 4

Bring the hand cannon to the Speaker.

Step 5

Cleanse yourself and the weapon with an infusion of Light.

"I can stop the blight from spreading. Btt you must cleanse the weapon, and yourself, with an infusion of Light."

Notes

Obtain an Infusion of Light from The Speaker. This will cost one Mote of Light.

Step 6

Bring the weapon to Ikora Rey.

Step 7

Kill Xyor, the Unwed.

"Defeat the minions of Phogoth until Xyor the Unwed is summoned."

"But, be warned... You must keep Phogoth alive until the death of Xyor.""

Notes

Xyor is found in a level 26 instance of "The Summoning Pits" that is only available while this phase of the bounty is active. The Epic modifier is enabled, and matchmaking is not used. Phogoth must be damaged enough to trigger waves of enemies but not killed until Xyor appears. She is included in the enemies dropped by the third Tombship. Killing the Wizard will complete the Strike and the Unbound Thorn obtained.

Step 8

Return to the Speaker.
