"Out beyond the Reef its rings shine. Whatever was known of it in the Golden Age is long forgotten, but more ancient truth remains: Saturn has dozens of moons, including the mighty Titan, a world larger than Mercury."
Grimoire description[4]

Saturn is the sixth planet in the Sol System, and the second largest gas giant behind Jupiter. When the Traveler passed Saturn, it burrowed inside the gas giant.[5] It is also a living consciousness, and one of the Nine.

Overview

Saturn's rings are littered with a number of derelict ships from the Golden Age, including the possible remains of the First Fleet.[6][7] The City has yet to make official contact with Saturn due to its great remoteness and dangers,[4] but the Nine seem to have some claim over Saturn's moons.[2] In The Taken King, the Hive Dreadnaught, the fortress of Oryx, is found orbiting Saturn, occupying an artificial hole between its "B" and "C" rings.[8][9]

Locations

Trivia

  • It should be noted that Saturn's middle or "B" Ring is, in fact, much denser than the inner "C" and "D" rings, which means that Saturn would not be visible through it, as erroneously indicated in the fifth image in the gallery below. The fact that the "B" ring appears darker is due instead to the player approaching from the unlit side. Based on the width of the "C" ring (approx 17500 km), we can deduce that the blast radius of the weapon is in the vicinity of 15,000 km.
