There is more information available on this subject at Sol System on the English Wikipedia.
The Solar System (also called the Sol system or simply Sol) is the planetary system inhabited by humanity. During the Golden Age, humanity forged an empire that spanned much of the system, but the catastrophic effects of the Collapse forced humans to retreat to Earth, abandoning their many worlds to various other forces.
The planets and the Sun of the Solar System are each associated with one of the dark-matter based intelligences that collectively make up the Nine.
The system is currently inhabited by both the Traveler and the Darkness, the latter of which is in the midst of sieging the system.
Notable Celestial Bodies
Image | Celestial Body | Description | |
---|---|---|---|
Sun | Also known as Sol, it is the native star of the Solar System. | ||
Mercury | The first and closest planet to the Sun. Transformed into garden world by the Traveler, the Vex later converted it into a planet-sized Machine World.[1] The planet disappeared due to a gravitational anomaly caused by the Black Fleet. | ||
Venus | The second largest terrestrial planet, it is a volcanic jungle world and home to the Ishtar Academy; humanity's greatest center of learning. Occupied by the Vex and the Fallen House of Winter.[2] | ||
Earth | The largest terrestrial planet and homeworld of the Human species. Due to heavy presence of alien enemies such as Fallen, Hive, Cabal, and Taken, the only safe Human settlement is The Last City. Notable cities such as London and Manhattan are unfit for Human habitat.[3] | ||
Moon | Also known as Luna, it is Earth's only proper natural satellite. Humanity established a small colony to supply the rest of the system. The Hive built a stronghold around a Pyramid. The moon also has minor Fallen and Vex presence.[4] | ||
Mars | The fourth planet and the third largest terrestrial planet in the Solar System. Humanity established the city, Freehold, and built BrayTech Futurescape and Rasputin. Occupied by the Cabal and Vex, with the Hive presence by Hellas Basin.[5] The planet disappeared due to a gravitational anomaly caused by the Black Fleet. | ||
Phobos | One of the two asteroid moons orbiting Mars, the Psion Flayers altered its natural orbit.[6] The Cabal established an outpost for the Skyburners until the Taken invaded and destroyed theur base.[7] | ||
Deimos | The smaller asteroid satellite of Mars. It can be seen above the Meridian Bay sky opposite Phobos. | ||
Asteroid Belt | A ring of many solid, irregularly shaped asteroids located within the orbits of Jupiter and Mars. The boundary between the Inner System and the Outer System is marked by many Golden Age debris. A series of conflicts spanned across the belt called the Reef Wars.[8] | ||
Ceres | A dwarf planet and largest object in the main Asteroid Belt. It was destroyed by the Awoken after they attacked the House of Wolves colony with Harbingers.[9] | ||
The Reef | A field of debris and derelicts within the orbit of asteroids. It is the Reefborn Awoken and have also settled in asteroids such as 4 Vesta, 2 Pallas, 10 Hygiea, 65 Cybele, and 5560 Amytis.[10] The Prison of Elders is also located here and escapees have fled to the Tangled Shore. | ||
Jupiter | A gas giant. Its moons are believed to have been a major cornerstone of Golden Age civilization.[11] | ||
Io | A volcanic, sulfuric, and partially terraformed moon occupied by the Cabal and Vex. Vex ruins lie all across the planet, and the Taken are highly active. Disappeared into a gravitational anomaly following the Arrival of the Black Fleet. | ||
Europa | a moon of Jupiter and former human colony, under the control of the Nine. Occupied by the Darkness. | ||
Ganymede | the largest moon in the Solar System, occupied by Vex and their ruins. | ||
Callisto | the second largest moon of Jupiter, known to possess a small Hive presence. | ||
Saturn | A gas giant. Oryx's Dreadnaught and a Hive fleet now orbit the planet.[12] | ||
Enceladus | a moon of Saturn | ||
Rhea | Amoon of Saturn, mentioned to be under control of the Nine. | ||
Telesto | A moon of Saturn, notable for attracting Harbinger matter after the Battle of Saturn. | ||
Titan | Saturn's largest moon covered in methane ocean and littered with the ruins of Golden Age cities built above the sea level. The Hive and the Fallen lurk around the moon. Disappeared into a gravitational anomaly following the Arrival of the Black Fleet. | ||
Hyperion | A moon of Saturn, mentioned to have traded with Titan, and was home to some Ishtar scientists. | ||
Nessus | A dormant Vex Machine World that is also under Red Legion occupation. Emperor Calus's world-consuming Leviathan looms over the planetoid. | ||
Uranus | A gas giant. Known to be orbited by Clovis Bray's Caelus Station. Occupied by the Darkness.[13] | ||
Neptune | Eighth planet from the sun. Occupied by the Darkness. | ||
Pluto | A dwarf planet on the edge of the system. Taken by the Darkness. |
Transdimensional Realms
Image | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Black Garden | An ancient timeless realm occupied by the Vex and mysteriously tied to the Light and Darkness.[14] | |
Ascendant Plane | an ancient, eldritch alternate dimension intrinsically tied to the Darkness that is the origin of the Taken and ruled over by entities empowered by the Sword Logic, such as the Hive, Scorn, and Worm Gods. | |
Unknown Space | A mysterious realm controlled by the Nine. | |
Queen's Court | The throne room of Mara Sov located in Unknown Space. | |
