- "The Archons are the links between the Fallen and their Servitors. We break those links, we break the Fallen."
- — Grimoire Description
Archons (also known as Archon Priests) are high priests of the Fallen, who act as the intermediary between the Kell and the Prime Servitor of each House.[1]
Overview
Archons are part of the triumvirate leadership of a Fallen House, and serve the Prime Servitor; working as a go between communicating the wills of each to the other. Archons also act as mechanics for their Primes, and take part in some sort of unclear symbiosis, but are still clearly defined as a servant to their Prime.[2][3] If an Archon were to fall, that House's Prime Servitor becomes vulnerable to attack.[4] They are also responsible for overseeing a Fallen ritual know as the Archon's Forge, an ancient rite of passage for Fallen seeking to improve their station.[5]
Houses seem to have several high station mechanics called "Rising Archons" ready to assume the role should there be a need to. They themselves appear to be skilled mechanics, eager to prove their worth.[6] How new Archons are selected is unclear, but during the course of the Reef Wars the House of Wolves had no less than two different Archons during the course of the war.[7][8]
Other duties of Archons are unclear, but they do seem to have a role in the ritualistic docking that Fallen Dregs are subject to.[9] Prime Servitors also play some role in Fallen Star Flight, and it may be the Archon's role in conveying the wishes of the Kell to the Prime on the course.[10] In the absence of a Kell, an Archon becomes a notable commander by acting out the wishes of its Prime Servitor and can restore order among the House by caretaking or rebuilding the House Prime. Riksis, Devil Archon helped Sepiks Prime rule the House of Devils after the death of their Kell over one hundred years ago.[11] His successor, Aksis, Archon Prime, also used his new authority as Archon to take control of the House, although his power was far more limited due to the radical nature of his views, and the death of Sepiks Prime.[12][13]
