S.A.B.E.R.-2 is a modified Shank built by aspiring Fallen Archons out of servitor parts and Cosmodrome tech to counter Rasputin's defenses and breach his firewalls, so that the House of Devils may gain control of his Warsat network. In fact, it has partially shown to do this in battle, as it is capable of altering the environment via heatsinks and blast shields, which will make those areas unsafe. The Shank is equipped with a number of conventional weapons as well, making it a threat to any Guardian who attempts to stop it.
Gameplay
S.A.B.E.R.-2 has three different attack modes depending on health remaining. It starts by firing a Solar-damage wire rifle mounted to the top of its head. It is deadly accurate with this weapon and can be used to quickly kill Guardians in just a few well-placed long-range shots. However, this weapon does take time to charge. Try strafing to avoid its shots. Its weak spot is its forward thrusters.
After the thrusters are destroyed, it switches to dual Void-damage chainguns. They can easily sweep the battlefield of close to midrange attackers due to their fast rate of fire and surprisingly high damage output. The player's best bet is to back away and fight back at range. Its new weak spot is the purple vent on the top of its head.
After it has been damaged enough, its head will expose its internal wiring and will start aggressively pursuing Guardians and hitting them with its short-range Arc-blast attack. This is arguably S.A.B.E.R-2's deadliest attack due to its 1-hit kill potential. The player being chased will then be forced to run away and occasionally turn around to face S.A.B.E.R-2 and fire off a few shots at it. The new weak spot is its exposed internal workings.
It is recommended during this final phase that the fireteam splits up to both avoid its Arc-blast attack and deal more damage, confusing it as to which to go for, and keep moving to deal with any ads that appear.
Trivia
- S.A.B.E.R.-2. is also known as the Devourer Shank. This title can be seen in the text appearing on the sidebar while the boss fight occurs.
- A special Heavy Shank variant that appears in the Wrath of the Machine Raid, known as the Voltage Eater, is directly modeled after S.A.B.E.R.-2.
- The House of Dusk has incorporated the S.A.B.E.R. project into their arsenal through the creation of S.A.B.E.R.-0.6.
- S.A.B.E.R.-2 was the first Heavy Shank and appears to be the most advanced with two modes, a Solar sniper mode and a Void machine gun mode along with an Arc-based last resort when its chassis is blown off.
- S.A.B.E.R.-2 is the only Fallen boss whose weak point changes. During the first phase it is located on its jets, in phase two it is located in its sensor eye, and in phase three it is located in its core inside the chassis.
