The Guardian is forced to fig off the Fallen while seeking out an ancient Arcadia-class jumpship in Dock 13. The [[Jumpship]] is revived by The Guardian’s Ghost and the two travel to the City, where the [[Speaker]] tasks this Guardian with finding the means to restore the [[Traveler]]before the [[Darkness]] returns and destroys the [[City]] once and for all.

The Guardian discovers that [[Rasputin]] is still alive in the Cosmodrome. Ignoring attempt to make contact by the Vanguard, Rasputin takes charge of the planetary defense network.

*The [[Exo Stranger]] meets with the Guardian to warn them of the impending threat of the Vex and their attempts to rewrite reality.

*The Guardian travels to the Reef, where they are intercepted by The Queen’s Guard and brought to the throne room. They are told from The Crow that in order to get in to the Black Garden, they must bring him the eye of a Vex Gate Lord.

*The Guardian and their Ghost return to Venus, where they revive an ancient research station of the Ishtar Collective, learning that the Vex have biological minds but share a single consciousness across their whole network. They also learn that the Vex can teleport instantly across star-systems, and learn that the Vex turned Mercury into a machine in days.

*The Guardian lures out a Vex Gate Lord, Zydron, in the Endless Steps on Venus and kills it. Their Ghost transmats the Gate Lord’s head and they leave for Venus, where the head is transmatted at the feet of the Queen of the Reef. The Crow removes its Eye, but its power goes out. Reluctantly, The Crow tells The Guardian where they can repower the Eye, giving coordinates for a location in the Meridian Bay on Mars.

*[[Draksis, Winter Kell]], is hunted down and killed by Guardians in his own Ketch in the Cinders, removing the last of the [[House of Winter]]'s leadership.

*The Cabal High Command is decimated after scores of its leaders are killed in battle with Guardians. Among them are [[Primus Sha'aul]], leader of the [[Blind Legion]] and the veteran general [[Valus Ta'aurc]], leader of the [[Siege Dancers]]. The Cabal suffer an even greater loss after an elite unit of [[Psion Flayer]]s are wiped out in the [[Dust Palace]] by a fireteam from Earth.

*The Guardian seizes control of the Black Garden Spire and wakes the Gate Lord’s Eye (The Garden’s Spire). Cayde-6 congratulates The Guardian, saying that no one has ever penetrated the Blind Legion perimeter and made it into the Warbase.

*The Guardian finds and destroys the source of Vex surging to protect the Black Garden, and discovers that they’re all returning .

*The Guardian clears out the Cabal occupying the lost city of Freehold and explores what remains, discovering that Rasputin has some presence on Mars. Master Rahool claims that reclaiming Freehold is “the dawn of a new era”.

*The Guardian enters the Black Garden and destroys the [[Black Heart]] at its core. Freed from the Heart's parasitic influence, the Traveler regains its Light and begins to heal.

*A group of Guardians ventures into the Vault of Glass and defeats Atheon, disrupting the Vex's plan to permanently incorporate themselves into reality itself.
