Silver Dust is a currency item. Silver Dust can be used to purchase certain items and could be used to apply weapon and armor ornaments prior to the Dawning update. After this, applying ornaments to exotic weapons no longer cost Silver Dust.[1] During the Age of Triumph, Silver Dust was used to buy event exclusive items from the Silver Dust Kiosk such as masks and previously acquired Taken/Dawning armor. You were able to gain Silver Dust by opening Treasures of Ages or dismantling items gained from the Treasures of Ages. Later in Destiny 2, Silver Dust was used to buy items from Tess Everis in the Tower for Eververse items and can be acquired by decoding Eververse Engrams, dismantling legendary tier shaders, or receiving them from Eververse during special occasions.
