The Battle of the Twilight Gap (known to the Eliksni as The Final Attempt) was one of the biggest battles ever faced by the City. This battle took place at the outskirts of the city, at the Twilight Gap.[4]
Overview[edit]
Prelude[edit]
The Kell of the House of Kings manipulated the different Houses of the Fallen into joining forces to attack the City, with the House of Devils leading the charge.[5] The assault was heralded by a rise in Fallen attacks on the City's borders. [6] The House of Wolves would have joined the battle, had they not been caught off guard by the Reef[7]. The ultimate goal for the Fallen was the capture of the Traveler.[8]
The Battle[edit]
The City responded by organizing a force of Guardians under Iron Lord Saladin Forge.[9] Fallen Walkers dueled with the City's gun emplacements. [10] The machine gun Thunderlord also distinguished itself and even in the chaos of battle could be seen leaving an ocean of dead Fallen in its wake.[11] Lord Shaxx commanded a fireteam that consisted of Anastasia Bray, Liu Feng, Nkechi-32, Idil Abdi, and Truce, which refused to follow Saladin's orders when he instructed all fireteams to fall back to the Ridgeback District as he believed the Wall was lost. Instead they secured a gap in the Wall to hold off the onslaught of Fallen from entering the Last City.[12] Shaxx and his fireteam's counterattack allowed the Vanguard to beat back the Fallen and drive them from the City's wall.[13] It would take awhile for Shaxx, Saladin, and Zavala to mend the rift due to Shaxx's insubordination on that day.
Aftermath[edit]
In the aftermath, many Guardians were killed, and Ana Bray was also presumed dead after being seen falling off the Gap. Feizel Crux commemorated the fallen Guardians by forging Gjallarhorn out of their armor.[14] Fearing for the city's ability to repel another attack, Shaxx created the Crucible to train a new generation of Guardians.[13] The Vanguard also became more proactive in preventing the enemy from attacking the city again, and began authorizing major strikes against enemy targets.[15]
