The Guardian approaches and stands at the bottom of the throne's steps.

*Uldren Sov: There is no shame in running away, Guardian. Apart from the cowardice and failure of it, it's an excellent strategy.
*Guardian: We didn't run.
*Mara Sov: Was no Gate Lord slain, brother?
*Ghost: (proudly) Oh, we slayed a Gate Lord.
*Guardian: Ghost.

The Ghost warps in the head of Zydron, Gate Lord clattering to the floor with a loud crash. The Vandal Guards flex their weapons in anticipation of defending their Queen in suspicion, while the Queen and her brother lean forward, surprised.

The Guardian enters the Queen's throne room. Mara Sov is sitting casually on her throne. Her brother Uldren is standing facing her. Two Vandals with pikes stand nearby at rest. The Queen turns her attention to the Guardian as they draw near.
*Guardian: We need to find the Black Garden.
*Uldren: (chuckles condescendingly) They don't even know where it is.
*Mara Sov: Let us tell them. Search the Gate Lord for that which gains them entrance.

MARA: It is alive...and still has its ball...
Uldren angrily turns toward Mara Sov.

Uldren turns around and smirks, seeing nothing in the Guardian's hands.
*Uldren Sov: Why? If you wish them certain death, just kill them here.
*Mara Sov: (looks at him disdainfully) Often when we guess at others' motives, we reveal only our own.
*Uldren Sov: My motive is simply loyalty... to a people.

ULDREN: There is no shame in running away, Guardian. Apart from the cowardice and failure of it, it's an excellent strategy.
He kneels at her side.
    GUARDIAN: (confidently) We didn't run.

The Queen and Uldren exchange looks of confusion.
*Uldren Sov: A queen... and a sister.
*Mara Sov: Then please... take what is required.

MARA: Was no Gate Lord slain, brother?
Uldren looks downward, defeated, then stands and walks toward the Gate Lord's head. Standing over it, he unsheathes his knife, and roughly thrusts it into the top of the mechanical mass. One of the Vandals adjusts his grip on his pike. Moments later, he pulls the eye from Zydron's head. The light in the eye quickly goes out, and the brother grins smugly.
GHOST: Oh, we slayed a Gate Lord!
    GUARDIAN: (expectantly) Ghost...

Ghost teleports the Vex head into the throne room, and it crashes to the floor in front of the throne. The Queen, her brother, and the Fallen guards look visibly shocked.
*Uldren: Dead... unfortunately.

GUARDIAN: (demanding) We need to find the Black Garden.
He turns and shows the Queen.
ULDREN: Hmph...they don't even know where it is.
MARA: Let us tell them. Search the Gate Lord for that which gains them entrance.

Uldren turns to Mara, irritated.
*Uldren: A wasted journey, I'm afraid.
*Mara Sov: Perhaps... but I think these one's resourceful. We gift it... in sympathy for their Traveler.

ULDREN: Why?! If you wish them certain death, just kill them here!
Uldren's eyes widen in surprise before he quickly composes himself. He then turns toward the Guardian.
MARA: Often, when we guess at others' motives, we reveal only our own.
ULDREN: My motive is simply loyalty...to a people...(kneels, a pleading look on his face) a Queen and a sister.
MARA: Then, please. Take what is required.

Uldren reluctantly and grudgingly steps down from Mara's side and stops next to the head. He draws his long knife and plunges it in, carelessly ripping out the eye and smiling as its glow disappears.
*Uldren: Mars. Eighty-four North, thirty-two East. Meridian Bay.

ULDREN: Dead, unfortunately. (turns to face the Queen and holds up the eye) A wasted journey, I'm afraid.
He quickly tosses the dead eye towards the Guardian, who catches it. Mara Sov stands from her throne.
MARA: Perhaps, but we think these ones resourceful. We gift it, in sympathy for their Traveler.

Mara's brother turns away from her, looks into the eye and scowls. He turns to the Guardian.
*Mara Sov: I have shown you benevolence, Guardian. Should the Awoken ever need an ally, I will call on you and expect you to answer.

ULDREN: Mars. Eighty-Four North, Thirty-Two East, Meridian Bay.
Uldren sheathes his knife, and the Vandal Guards finally stand at rest on either side of the Queen.

He tosses the eye to the Guardian, who catches it in their hand and looks at it. Mara Sov stands.
*Uldren: She's saying you owe us, Guardian.
*Guardian: I understand... (bows slightly) Your Grace.

MARA: I have shown you benevolence, Guardian. Should the Awoken ever need an ally I will call on you. And expect you to answer.
The Guardian and Ghost turn and walk toward the exit.
ULDREN: (low, threatening) She's saying you owe us, Guardian.
GUARDIAN: I understand. (briefly bows head) Your grace.

The Guardian turns and leaves. Ghost floats for a moment, then follows.
*Uldren: Good luck! (mutters) ...getting through the Exclusion Zone.

ULDREN: Good luck! (quietly) ...Getting through the Exclusion Zone.

Transcript[edit]

{Cutscene}

The Guardian returns to the Reef, Ghost in tow. The Queen sits at her throne, her Brother and personal guard around her.

 • Mara Sov: It is alive.

Uldren turns to see them.

 • Mara Sov: And still has its ball.

The Guardian approaches and stands at the bottom of the throne's steps.

 • Guardian: We didn't run.
 • Mara Sov: Was no Gate Lord slain, brother?
 • Ghost: (proudly) Oh, we slayed a Gate Lord.

The Ghost warps in the head of Zydron, Gate Lord clattering to the floor with a loud crash. The Vandal Guards flex their weapons in anticipation of defending their Queen in suspicion, while the Queen and her brother lean forward, surprised.

 • Guardian: We need to find the Black Garden.
 • Uldren: (chuckles condescendingly) They don't even know where it is.
 • Mara Sov: Let us tell them. Search the Gate Lord for that which gains them entrance.

Uldren angrily turns toward Mara Sov.

 • Uldren Sov: Why? If you wish them certain death, just kill them here.
 • Mara Sov: (looks at him disdainfully) Often when we guess at others' motives, we reveal only our own.
 • Uldren Sov: My motive is simply loyalty... to a people.

He kneels at her side.

 • Uldren Sov: A queen... and a sister.
 • Mara Sov: Then please... take what is required.

 • Uldren: Dead... unfortunately.

He turns and shows the Queen.

 • Uldren: A wasted journey, I'm afraid.
 • Mara Sov: Perhaps... but I think these one's resourceful. We gift it... in sympathy for their Traveler.

Uldren's eyes widen in surprise before he quickly composes himself. He then turns toward the Guardian.

He quickly tosses the dead eye towards the Guardian, who catches it. Mara Sov stands from her throne.

 • Mara Sov: I have shown you benevolence, Guardian. Should the Awoken ever need an ally, I will call on you and expect you to answer.

Uldren sheathes his knife, and the Vandal Guards finally stand at rest on either side of the Queen.

 • Uldren: She's saying you owe us, Guardian.
 • Guardian: I understand... (bows slightly) Your Grace.
