- — Toland, the Shattered[1]
A Deathsinger is a special kind of Hive Wizard which possesses the ability to sing the Deathsong, a powerful song which kills anyone listening when it is complete.[2] Two of them sing Crota's dirge with his sisters in Last Rites.[3]
Gameplay
Ir Yût, the Deathsinger is encountered in the Raid Crota's End, and may be a class of Deathsinger as she reappears again in Last Rites[3]. Her Deathsong, the Liturgy of Ruin, is a three minute long song which, if completed, will wipe the Raid party. In order to damage her the party must lure out two Hive Wizards, kill them, then kill two Shriekers when the message "the Deathsinger prepares her song" appears. The shield will drop around the Deathsinger, allowing the party to damage her.[4]
Ir Anûk and Ir Halak are first encountered in Last Rites but immediately disappear when the Guardian's cloaking field trips. They both later appear in the Raid King's Fall. Their Deathsongs, the Dirge of Unraveling and the Hymn of Weaving, respectively, last for approximately a minute each. In order to prevent the one Deathsinger from killing the party one player, who has been torn between dimensions, must get a spark and get close to the other sister and steal her aura, leaving her defenceless. The aura will protect the players while they damage the non-singing sister until the other finishes her Deathsong. The aura will then return to its original sister and the process begins again. When one sister is killed, there will be no protective aura to defend the players, and so they must kill the other quickly.[5]
Several Deathsingers are encountered as part of the Symphony of Death Quest. These Deathsingers differ from normal Wizards for their possession of Void Absorption Shields, as well as their ability to actively channel the Deathsong. While they are chanting, the player's screen will be obstructed by green mist, and a one minute timer will tick down. If it reaches zero, the player will succumb to the Deathsong. Breaking the Deathsinger's shield stops her chant, which she will only restart when her shield recharges. They are also active fighters with all the behaviours of normal Wizards, flying evasively and using their spells to disorient and attack the player.[6]
