Overview

Homeworld:

Earth

"Hunters once prowled the wilderness and wastelands, taking big risks for even bigger rewards. You're no outlaw – at least not any more – but making your own luck has always meant bending the rules. Your unique brand of daring and ingenuity is needed now more than ever."
— Class description

The Hunter is a type of Guardian who uses stealth and long ranged weapons to kill his/her enemies.[1] Through manipulation of the Traveler's energies, Hunters learned how to survive in the wild. Some fear them as being dangerous, but their bravery has led to many discoveries dating back to the Golden Age.[2]

Abilities

Hunters are focused on damage dealing from short and medium range.[3]

All Guardians have certain abilities, some of which are granted by the Traveler, others which may appear more mundane in nature. All Guardians have a double jump ability and a "grenade-type" ability whose effects vary by class.[4][5] All these abilities with the exception of the double jump can be upgraded over time and can be used in competitive PvP.[6][7]

The Hunter has 4 known special abilities:

  • Ghost Gun: The Hunter's weapon is charged with golden energy that deals large amounts of damage to a target.[8]
  • Another ability (confirmed as the Hunter's "grenade-type" ability) is the creation of several red explosive projectiles which float in the air & home in on nearby enemies.[8]
  • A quick-dash or blink ability in which the Hunter seemingly vanishes, presumably appearing in another nearby location (the video in which this was seen only showed the Hunter disappearing, not reappearing).[9]
  • An ability in which the Hunter charges their combat knife with arcane energy, increasing damage and causing targets slashed to be vaporized.[9]

Trivia

  • Destiny marks the third time a group of entities in a Bungie game has been named "Hunters", the other two being Marathon and Halo. It also marks the first time that Hunters are not an enemy class.
  • The Hunter's outfit is shown to have a 50:50 fabric to armor ratio.[citation needed] Its visual design is meant to look like they scavenge the wilderness for gear, with torn capes and gear based on HAZMAT material.[10]
