Exalting the Flame is a Destiny 2 quest introduced in Season of the Deep. It acquaints the Guardian with the Solar subclass.
Steps[edit]
Step 1[edit]
Ikora Rey will be your guide as you train your Light. Follow her instructions, and harness the blazing power of Solar within yourself.
- Speak with Ikora Rey in the Tower Bazaar.
"Clarity of purpose in all things, Guardian. Your mind, body, and will must be as one." —Ikora
"Imagine the gentle warmth of dawn, escalating to the blazing fury of the midday sun." Ikora extends her hands, as if catching sunlight in her open palms. "That is the essence of Solar Light: a balm to your friends, and a scourge to your foes."
"For now, focus on using Solar to Scorch your targets. Those you Scorch will burn over time and can even ignite with repeated applications of Scorch."
Ikora folds her hands once more. "There is no substitute for practice, and Solar Light may take some time to learn. Return when you have mastered Scorch, and I will guide you down the path of greater power."
Step 2[edit]
For many Guardians, Solar Light is the easiest to wield and comprehend. Everyone understands the rejuvenating power of a sunbeam or the sharp burn of a flame.
- With a Solar subclass equipped, defeat targets affected by Scorch, defeat targets with abilities, and cast your Super.
Some Solar abilities Scorch your targets. Scorched targets take damage over time, and this damage increases as your target accumulates Scorch stacks. After enough Scorch stacks are applied, your foes ignite in a large explosion.
To make progress, equip abilities, aspects, fragments, or gear with the Scorch keyword. For example, the Ember of Char fragment makes your Solar Ignitions spread Scorch to affected targets.
"Let the Light animate your every move." —Ikora
Step 3[edit]
Your Ghost's scans detect a source of Solar energy in the EDZ. Specifically, it seems to be coming from Skydock IV. Investigate, and bring anything you find back to Ikora.
- Complete the Lost Sector Skydock IV in the EDZ, and loot the Lost Sector chest.
- Lost Sector chest looted
A tide of fiery power swells within. With a single breath, it roars to life.
- Notes
The Guardian retrieves a Heliosphere Emitter from the chest.
Step 4[edit]
Before you can progress, you must broaden your understanding of Solar Light. As always, Ikora is ready to show you the way.
- Purchase grenade abilities from Ikora Rey in the Tower Bazaar.
- Tripmine Grenade purchased
- Fusion Grenade purchased
"Osiris once described Solar Light as an old friend: comforting, stable, and strong." —Ikora
Step 5[edit]
Before you can progress, you must broaden your understanding of Solar Light. As always, Ikora waits to show you the way.
- Meditate to learn your new subclass ability. The Meditation device is next to Ikora in the Tower Bazaar.
"Impatience is the enemy of comprehension." —Ikora
Step 6[edit]
Ikora will surely take an interest in the object you found on Skydock IV. It seems to radiate warm Solar energy.
- Speak with Ikora Rey in the Tower Bazaar.
Though quiescent for now, the embers can be reignited at a moment's notice.
Ikora looks pleasantly surprised by the strange object you unearthed in the EDZ. "How did you discover this? It appears to be a relic of the Golden Age, and it resonates with Solar power." Sure enough, the emitter glows and dims in time with your breathing when you hand it over.
She makes a thoughtful sound, looking you over. "It would spell trouble for the Vanguard if other relics like this fell into the wrong hands. Guardian, there is an arms dealer operating out of the EDZ. We believe he is supplying weapons to the Shadow Legion, so I'm sending you to shut down his operations."
Ikora gives you a small but genuine smile. "Here. This will empower your Solar abilities further." She presents you with a piece of armor; it's soothingly warm to the touch. "I have every confidence in your victory and high hopes for your potential. When you return, seek out Banshee-44. He'll have something for your efforts."
- Notes
The Guardian recieves Synthoceps, Young Ahamkara's Spine, or Starfire Protocol depending on their class.
Step 7[edit]
Ikora believes you are ready for a final test of your Solar Light. Storm Bracus Zahn's base, disrupt his weapon smuggling operations, and teach him a fiery lesson he won't forget.
- Equip your Solar subclass and new Exotic armor.
If you no longer have access to your Exotic, it can be reacquired from Collections.- Solar subclass equipped
- Synthoceps equipped (Titan only)
- Young Ahamkara's Spine equipped (Hunter only)
- Starfire Protocol equipped (Warlock only)
"Breath, life, and hope… these subtler qualities of Solar are no less important." —Ikora
Step 8[edit]
Ikora believes you are ready for a final test of your Solar Light. Storm Bracus Zahn's base, disrupt his weapon smuggling operations, and teach him a fiery lesson he won't forget.
- Complete the strike "The Arms Dealer" in the EDZ, with your Solar subclass and new Exotic armor equipped.
- "The Arms Dealer" completed
"A novice feeds the inferno. A master tames it." —Ikora
Step 9[edit]
Even the taciturn Banshee-44 has heard of your recent victories with Solar Light. Your reputation grows, as does your arsenal.
- Speak with Banshee-44 in the Tower Courtyard.
"Light's nice, but come find me when you need something with a little more kick." —Banshee-44
Banshee-44 briefly looks up from his work. "Zahn's always been a pain. Glad someone put him in his place."
"Sounds like you made an impression on Ikora. She asked me to find a Solar weapon for you." The weapon that he hands you looks untouched, fresh from the armory. "This can Scorch, just like you. Should play well with your armor and abilities."
When you don't immediately leave, Banshee speaks up once more. "Not often that Ikora puts in a request like this. If you want to keep learning, go back to her. I think she'll make time for you."
Check back with Ikora to continue learning about your Light, including other Aspects, abilities, Fragments, and keywords.
- Notes
The Guardian recieves Cry Mutiny.
