The Echo of Command is one of several paracausal artifacts known as Echoes that were released from within the Traveler following the destruction of the Witness. It was created specifically from the memories of Warden Te'Qal, the last commander of the Qugu's Seht Armada who died in their final stand against the Hive and the Black Fleet.[1] It grants its user the ability to command and compel other beings, bending them to its will.[2]
It is currently in the possession of the original version of Maya Sundaresh, whose consciousness survived her death on Neomuna within the Darkness of the Veil and was reincarnated on Nessus within an Exo body she crafted using the Echo's ability to compel the local Vex. Styling herself as "the Conductor," Maya used the Echo to introduce individuality to the Vex and bring them under her control, creating a new collective known as the Nessian Schism.[citation needed]
Description[edit]
The Echo appears to be a collar-like device with a horseshoe-like shape, with an extension seemingly infused with Prismatic energy. Its interior surface is studded with apertures which appear to emit beams capable of synthesizing matter; the introductory cutscene to Act II of Echoes depicts the Echo constructing the Conductor's Exo body out of thin air.[2] However, the Lore entry VII. Mind-Body seems to suggest that Maya's body was actually constructed by Vex Radiolaria, which she commanded using the power of the Echo.[3]
