The Quassin are a species of humanoid aquatic creatures created from a rogue planet. After many centuries of peace, they would be driven to extinction by the Witness and the Disciple recruited from their people - Tivon.
Overview[edit]
What would become the homeworld of the Quassin had become a rogue planet after being flung out of their solar system when the universe was still young. Despite the lack of a star to provide warmth on the surface, life was able to exist deep in the oceans as bacteria that fed from the chemicals from hydrothermal vents and were kept warm enough to grow via both these vents and a rogue moon that had been caught in orbit. In time, the Quassin would evolve into sentient humanoid life with thin bodies and limbs, webbed hands and feet with three claws each, large eyes, sharp thin teeth and semi-transparent skin that could glow to lure prey to them.
The Quassin eventually became an intelligent species which slowly developed a primitive civilization that divided different Quassin into groups called Shoals that built their homes around hydrothermal vents and crafted hunting weapons from rock and ice. These Shoals were led by a Shoal-leader, a Quassin of great authority who rarely ventured beyond their settlement as a Quassin shoal would be rendered more vulnerable to predators without one. Eventually, with the arrival of the Traveler and the gifting of its Light, the Quassin were able to create tools and improved structures by manipulating the materials produced by hydrothermal vents, eventually being able to safely reach the surface to see the Traveler. The Traveler would eventually leave their homeworld, but the Quassin continued to hold it in high regard and worship for years, referring to it as the "God Pearl".
The tales of these events would be recounted to many young Quassin, including Tivon who dreamed of finding the God Pearl. Eventually, he would make a pilgrimage to the surface after having a dream of meeting a mysterious dark figure. After finding the figure and having a lengthy conversion, Tivon would be convinced of its way of thinking after being told that his species went against the way of the universe and the Traveler's interference would bring his people suffering and would be taken away. The Quassin would be wiped out by the Witness not long after with the use of its Pyramids' gravitational weaponry to distort the planet, creating a great tidal wave that destroyed their civilizations in the violent undertow.
Centuries later, after the Witness had linked with the Veil with the Traveler to get into the Pale Heart to begin the Final Shape, it would use the Traveler's Light to create soldiers, dubbed Evocators, from its memories of the Quassin using Tivon as a template for their combat knowledge.
