Ceres (also known as 1 Ceres) was a dwarf planet and the largest object in the asteroid belt. It was occupied briefly by the Fallen House of Wolves before being destroyed by Awoken Harbingers in a titanic battle. This event initiated the Reef Wars.
History[edit]
During the Golden Age, a small space station was built in Ceres' orbit. Sometime after the Collapse, a small Dead Orbit expedition was sent to investigate; records from a Ghost indicate the entire team went mad, with the Arach asking all traces of their mission be scrubbed. The Awoken played little part in this.[2]
The dwarf planet was later claimed by the House of Wolves enroute to Earth from the Jovians, who excavated the Dwarf to accommodate shipyards and habitats.[3] The Reef challenged them to battle. In what became known as the Scatter, Queen Mara Sov deployed powerful weapons called Harbingers that wiped out half of the Wolves, including their Kell, and destroyed Ceres itself, beginning the Reef Wars.[1][4]
Trivia[edit]
- In Greece, Ceres is called Demeter (Δήμητρα), after the Greek equivalent of the Roman Cerēs; in English, that name is used for the asteroid 1108 Demeter. [5]
- In the Regent entry in the Awoken of the Reef Lorebook, the Hive were briefly mentioned to have landed over a hundred Seeder Ship on Ceres.[6] Given that it can be estimated the entry takes place around The Taken King, it may be that Ceres wasn't fully destroyed in Mara's attack.
