Jaren Ward was a Hunter and owner of The Last Word. He who scouted the frontier of Earth and became the defender of the refugee village Palamon, and later adopted Shin Malphur after the boy's first adopted father was killed in Dredgen Yor's massacre of the village. Jaren was killed by Yor when he attempted to hunt him down and end the mad Guardian's reign of terror.

Biography[edit]

He succeeded in liberating the village from its tyrant, the magistrate Loken.[1] Jaren became the second adoptive father to a local boy, Shin Malphur, who became his protégé.[2] However, Palamon was destroyed by Dredgen Yor, and Jaren himself was killed in pursuit of the attacker. His Ghost, however, was spared.[3]

Shin took up The Last Word for himself and defeated Dredgen Yor at Dwindler's Ridge.
