Death of Oryx and Extinction of the Hive and Taken
Do Hive Have Genes?
There's a lot of questions about the Hive and their elder gods but one question has bothered me a lot is that. Why doesn't Oryx's kin have wings or his horns except for "Nokris"? And about Crota. If my theory is wrong, (read here, Crota, Son of Oryx) then why does he look nothing like other Hive? ---Virgil the Ghost

So Oryx, the Taken King is now dead, does this mean without him the Hive and Taken are finally extinct? Titan66 (talk) 18:55, 10 October 2015 (EDT)
Oryx is alive
:Unfortunately for the Guardians, no. The Taken can hang around indefinitely until someone kills them all, so any Taken that Oryx made before he died are still an active threat. The Hive aren't created by Oryx like the Taken, they're living organisms that can grow and reproduce on their own, so while Oryx's death deprives them of leadership and direction, they are far from in danger of going extinct. Even if we kill all the Hive in the Solar System, Oryx's sisters and their armies are still out in the universe and might show up on our doorstep one day. I fought echo of Oryx in Destiny 2 Joker,s Wild .
This shows that Oryx is alive (in form of Echo of Oryx). And will have big role in future game!!!! Nittin Das (talk) 15:49, April 21, 2019 (EDT)

:Don't forget the five Worm gods, Akka, Eir, Ur, Xol, and Yul they're the creators of the Hive and could show up too one day! Titan66 (talk) 23:07, 10 October 2015 (EDT)
:Not by a long shot. Sparta94 (talk) 17:07, April 21, 2019 (EDT)
:: Please read this for more clarification. -- SFH (talk) 21:05, April 21, 2019 (EDT)

:Nope. Just because the God-king of the Hive is killed doesn't mean that the Hive and Taken are done for. With the April Update landing today, a new Taken Knight named Malok rises to power and occupies Oryx's vacant throne. If you kill Malok, then the Taken should probably die down, but the Hive still remain a threat. == The Destruction of the Solar System Hive ==

So with Oryx, the Taken King assassinated, does this mean all of the Solar System's Hive will all be consumed by the Worms and be destroyed?

Titan66 (talk) 19:03, 08 December 2015 (EDT)
:Why would their Worms consume them? Have they failed in their tithes of death? -- SFH (talk) 15:58, 9 December 2015 (EST)

:Considering that all of the Hive in the Solar System must bring all their tithes to Oryx, and eventually he brings them to all the Worms. So yes, without him, all of Oryx's spawn would be doomed because they don't have enough tithes of death with Oryx not around which means all of the Worm Gods would consume them from within except of course for Savathun and Xivu Arath's Hive spawn still outside of the Solar System. -- Titan66 (talk) 16:07, 08 December 2015 (EDT)
Is taox the mother of osmium king?
:Oryx never directed any of the death he received to the Worm Gods. The tithes were for Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath's Worms, not the Worm Gods themselves. The individual Hive just need to feed their worms enough to not be consumed. Oryx's death in no way impacts this. -- SFH (talk) 16:53, 9 December 2015 (EST)
:Oh now I see! Most of the Hive species feed their internal worms, but not the Worm Gods themselves, thank you for clarifying I got confused! -- Titan66 (talk) 17:53, 08 December 2015 (EDT)

Is God-King of the Hive a appropriate name for Oryx or King of the Hive that sounds more in point and makes sense, but not confusing? -- Titan66 (talk) 16:21, 23 March 2016 (EDT)

Would you consider using proper English and punctuation? Anyway, we don’t know of Taox is the mother of the Osmium King, or the grand-mother of Oryx. I was just wondering if Oryx is either Hive or really Taken your thoughts??? -- Titan66 (talk) 15:36, 13 April 2016 (EDT)
Due to his closeness to the Deep, possibly, but there is more evidence to suggest that Savathûn was to be a Disciple before she turned against the Witness in Season of Arrival. Plus, he clearly lacked he powers that Disciples have, not even the D2 Oryx who came after Rhulk had any XD — TheTrueSorrowMaker

Crota overthrowing his father Oryx
I wonder if Crota attempted to overthrow his father for his exile by angrily cutting Oryx's tribute system, destroying the Shrine of Oryx, and Crota forming a rebellion against his father by declaring to the Hive he be the new Hive king, what would Oryx do then? -- Titan66 (talk) 13:37, 25 October 2016 (EDT)

:It is written in the Books of Sorrow that "Crota battled through history, becoming a legendary demon. In his early centuries he often spared a few victims to hear oaths and protests against his father. Later, he came to understand Oryx, and he made temples and monuments wherever he went." An Emperor For All Outcomes. So, no, he did not rebel. Dante the Ghost (talk) 13:41, 25 October 2016 (EDT)

:But I'm thinking in an alternate reality of what if Crota did rebel against his father? -- Titan66 (talk) 13:37, 25 October 2016 (EDT)

:If that is the case, as Crota is weaker than his father by orders of magnitude he would be swiftly defeated, unless his siblings the Deathsingers and perhaps Nokris (whomever they are, be they mother, sister, or brother) join forces, then Oryx will have a problem. But then it wouldn't be rebellion as we would know it, for the Hive often kill one another "for this war is love". Oryx would view it as the greatest example of love his children could show him. This doesn't explain why Alak-Hul was imprisoned, however. Maybe it is different somewhat, in Alak-Hul's place. Dante the Ghost (talk) 13:50, 25 October 2016 (EDT)

I could imagine the Worm Gods like Eir view Oryx as a weakling and proclaming Crota as a new Hive king which would absolutely disappoint Oryx. -- Titan66 (talk) 13:53, 25 October 2016 (EDT)

:And why would the Worm Gods do that? Oryx is the most powerful of their servants, surpassing his sisters and all of his spawn. Through the killing-logic he feeds them their tithe of Light and has fulfilled his nature as the ultimate explorer-warrior king. He has even killed one of the Gods by taking what he needed instead of asking for it. That, in the eyes of the Worm Gods, is the ultimate arbiter of the Worm Gods' favor. So unless Crota and/or his siblings decided to abandon their father and "grow apart" from him like his sisters did, and they stumbled upon the Traveler in its weakened state, and killed it; then decided not to tithe all of that Light to Oryx, but instead keep it, then the Worm Gods would be interested. For remember, the Gods had tasked Oryx and his sisters to kill everything of the Sky, including the Traveler. If Crota and/or his siblings did that, then they'd be considered.

:But remember, Oryx's sisters are still out there, and with Oryx's ultimate death, they'd be the next in line as the most powerful, perhaps Xivu Arath because she's the Hive God of War. So even if in this alternate reality Crota and/or his siblings decided to rebel, they would have to have a very good reason and motivation in order to get the Worm Gods' attention, perhaps by showing enough the sword-logic to go into the Deep, where before only Oryx had trod, and met with the Worm Gods themselves. :I wonder if Crota did destroy the Traveler, what would Oryx do next with his son would he bring him back to the Dreadnaught or something? -- Titan66 (talk) 14:18, 25 October 2016 (EDT)

:I think that would be the case, yes. Dante the Ghost (talk) 15:22, 25 October 2016 (EDT)

Move?[edit]

Should we move this to Oryx, the Taken King to keep it in line with our other pages? -- SFH (talk) 21:11, 18 July 2015 (EDT)

  • Has it been confirmed that that's his official title? OmgHAX! (talk) 09:06, 19 July 2015 (EDT)
    • Mostly, I'm going by Bungie.net Destinythegame.com, and the descriptions in the trailers which always describe him as "Oryx, the Taken King". Does that qualify? -- SFH (talk) 15:07, 7 August 2015 (EDT)
Better to wait. Bungie might do something unexpected and make his full name "Oryx, King of the Taken". We'll know for sure as soon as someone beats the new raid and posts video on YouTube. MorningWalker (talk) 15:21, 7 August 2015 (EDT)
Or when the database gets updated and we can see his grimoire card. OmgHAX! (talk) 15:32, 7 August 2015 (EDT)

Powers/Abilities[edit]

Hello, I am just not what the descriptions of some of Oryx's abilities are such as Doxology and Banish to Darkness Dimension, can someone explain when and how he uses it?--CNBA3 (talk) 22:18, 27 September 2015 (EDT)

They're both abilities Oryx uses in King's Fall. "Doxology" is a team-wipe attack triggered by not stunning Oryx by detontating the spheres dropped by Light-Eater Ogres (if I remember correctly), while "Banish to Darkness Dimension" pulls a player into an isolated area where an enemy called Shade of Oryx must be killed in order to escape. MorningWalker (talk) 22:44, 27 September 2015 (EDT)

Thank you MorningWalker.--CNBA3 (talk) 10:32, 28 September 2015 (EDT)

Can someone enlighten me as to what the ability "King's Decree" is?--CNBA3 (talk) 00:12, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

Check the "Gameplay" section of the article. That section should have descriptions of known enemy abilities and when they are encountered. MorningWalker (talk) 15:40, 29 October 2015 (EDT)
