A Mote of Light is an item Guardians collect by accumulating experience after reaching level 40, opening loot chests in Patrol, decrypting Engrams, completing Bounties, and dismantling gear. Xûr, Agent of the Nine also sells Motes for 2 Strange Coins apiece.
Usage
Motes of Light can be traded in the Tower for several items and services:[1]
- Legendary Class Items from the Speaker (25 Motes of Light and 60 Legendary Marks)
- Legendary Emblems from Eva Levante (7 Motes of Light}
- The Tempering Buff from Saladin (1 Mote of Light)
- Weapon Reforges from Banshee-44 (1 Mote of Light, 3 Weapon Parts, 250 Glimmer)
- Infusing Legendary Weapons (1 Mote of Light, 10 Weapon Parts, 250 Glimmer, and 3 Legendary Marks)
- Reputation (+50) for Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, and New Monarchy (5 Motes of Light)
Motes of Light can also be used as a consumable as of The Taken King. Activating a Mote instantly grants 1500 XP, similar to turning in a Bounty.
