Champions are special boss enemies introduced in Shadowkeep. They appear in The Ordeal, seasonal arenas, and on the Moon.

Overview

Champions come in three varieties; Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable. A given enemy race has a Champion for two of the three types, and can be easily identified by red, tendril-like growths and dark coloration. Countering a Champion's special attribute stuns them, and players will be notified when this happens.

  • Barrier Champions behave the most like regular bosses. Once they are damaged to an extent, they will deploy a dome shield that regenerates their health while allowing them to continue attacking. Their shield can only be damaged by Anti-Barrier weapons.
  • Overload Champions have accelerated ability regeneration, and will use these abilities aggressively. They can be stunned using Overload weapons.
  • Unstoppable Champions will attack relentlessly from all ranges, and can be stunned using Unstoppable weapons.

Weapons used for countering Champions also have utility against other enemies.

  • Anti-Barrier weapons will bypass defences such as those utilized by Phalanxes and Hydras.
  • Overload weapons will delay ability regeneration and decrease enemy damage output.
  • Unstoppable weapons will stagger unshielded enemies.
